Provided is a vehicle travel control apparatus including: a vehicle controller configured to execute constant speed travel control for causing a vehicle to travel at a target speed, and configured to execute a target speed increasing process of increasing the target speed by a predetermined speed increase amount; a display device configured to display a setting screen which allows a driver to change at least the speed increase amount; and a memory configured to store the speed increase amount changed on the setting screen, the vehicle controller being further configured to execute the target speed increasing process in accordance with the speed increase amount which has been stored in the memory.

A method includes receiving a set speed, a maximum allowed speed, and a minimum allowed speed, wherein the maximum allowed speed and the minimum allowed speed define an allowed speed range; commanding a propulsion system to produce a commanded axle torque to maintain the set speed; monitoring a current vehicle speed of the vehicle; determining whether the current vehicle speed is between a first speed value and a second speed value, wherein the first speed value is the minimum allowed speed plus a first predetermined value, and the second speed value is the maximum allowed speed minus a second predetermined value; and in response to determining that the current vehicle speed is not between the first speed value and the second speed value, commanding the propulsion system to adjust the commanded axle torque in order to maintain the current vehicle speed within the allowed speed range.

A networking component, communicatively coupled with the speed control device, can be configured to communicate wirelessly with a remote computing device to provide the speed threshold information from the remote computing device to the speed control device, and to provide vehicle-related information to the remote computing device. Additionally, the remote computing device can comprise an application that allows a user to provide the speed threshold information and receive the vehicle-related information.

A speed control device, operably coupled with a vehicle management system, can be configured to limit an engine speed based at least upon: an identified speed of the vehicle; a pre-determined speed limit for a location of the vehicle, identified in real-time; and a pre-determined speed threshold for the vehicle. A networking component, communicatively coupled with the speed control device, can be configured to communicate wirelessly with a remote computing device to provide the speed threshold information from the remote computing device to the speed control device, and to provide vehicle-related information to the remote computing device. Additionally, the remote computing device can comprise an application that allows a user to provide the speed threshold information and receive the vehicle-related information.

A system and method for minimizing shift cycling for low speed engine operation with a vehicle cruise control. A vehicle control system operating in a cruise control mode determines a deficiency in vehicle speed between a measured vehicle speed and a cruise set speed. The deficiency is determined by comparing the vehicle speed to the cruise set speed, and includes using the compared value to find a cruise speed margin, which is continuously updated. While the cruise control system is active, the control system logic determines the time at which a transmission upshift occurs based on the cruise speed margin. The vehicle speed, at which the upshift is made, is determined as a function of the updated cruise speed margin. An upshift is not made, if a likely drop in vehicle speed would result in the event a downshift would occur once the upshift is made.

A vehicle speed control system for a vehicle having a plurality of wheels, the vehicle speed control system comprising one or more electronic control units configured to carry out a method that includes applying torque to at least one of the plurality of wheels, detecting a slip event between any one or more of the wheels and the ground over which the vehicle is travelling when the vehicle is in motion and providing a slip detection output signal in the event thereof. The method carried out by the one or more electronic control units further includes receiving a user input of a target speed at which the vehicle is intended to travel and maintaining the vehicle at the target speed independently of the slip detection output signal by adjusting the amount of torque applied to the at least one of the plurality of wheels.
