Battery Fire Control

The description relates to battery safety and more specifically to containing battery fires. One example can include displacement sub-systems configured to physically separate an affected battery pack from other battery packs. Another example can include a 3D deployable fire curtain configured to automatically deploy around a battery pack to limit the spread of fire between battery packs. A further example can include a media reservoir positioned over a battery pack that is configured to hold non-combustible smothering media. A media retainer can be interposed between the battery pack and the media reservoir and configured to automatically release the non-combustible smothering media into the battery pack support structure when the battery pack experiences a fire.

INERTING INTERMITTENT SUPPRESSION SYSTEM
20230211198 · 2023-07-06 ·

A method of operating a suppression system includes opening a discharge valve associated with a pressurized vessel containing suppression agent in response to detection of a hazardous condition within an area being monitored, releasing suppression agent into the area being monitored via a discharge nozzle, and detecting that the hazardous condition is no longer present in the area being monitored. The discharge valve is closed by the actuator in response to detecting that the hazardous condition is no longer present in the area being monitored.

FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM FOR A BATTERY ENCLOSURE

A modular fire suppression unit includes a housing, an off-gas detector, a fire suppression apparatus, and a controller. The off-gas detector is provided within the housing and is configured to obtain air samples and detect a presence of off-gas in each air sample. The fire suppression apparatus is provided within the housing and configured to provide a fire suppression agent to a space. The controller is provided within the housing and is configured to receive signals from the off-gas detector indicating whether off-gas is detected in each of the air samples. The controller is also configured to activate the fire suppression apparatus to provide the fire suppression agent to the space in response to detecting off-gas in one or more of the air samples. The modular fire suppression unit is configured to be coupled to a sidewall of an enclosure.

A wildfire suppression assembly for inhibiting the development of wildfires includes a tower that is located in a remote location and an arm that is pivotally coupled to the tower. A pump is integrated into the tower and the pump is fluidly coupled to a supply pipe to receive water from a below ground water supply. A spray pipe is coupled to the arm and the spray pipe is in fluid communication with the supply pipe to receive the water urged by the pump when the pump is turned on. A spray nozzle is fluidly coupled to the spray pipe to spray the water onto the remote location. In this way the spray nozzle inhibits the development of wildfires by keeping the moisture content of the remote location above a wildfire threshold.
