A close-range communication connection is automatically established between the vehicle and a mobile device when a digital key stored on the mobile device is detected in a close range of the vehicle. Charging information relating to the state of charge is transmitted to the mobile device when the mobile device is connected via the close-range communication connection to the vehicle and a high energy consumption is detected while the vehicle is at a standstill and/or a low-power status of the energy storage device is reached.
