WINDMILL SYNCHRONIZATION IN AN ELECTRIC PROPULSION SYSTEM
20210387742 · 2021-12-16 ·

A propulsion system is described that includes an electrical bus, a generator configured to provide electrical power to the electrical bus, a plurality of propulsors configured to provide thrust by simultaneously being driven by the electrical power at the electrical bus, and a controller. The controller is configured to synchronize a rotational speed of an individual propulsor from the plurality of propulsors with a rotational speed of the generator after the individual propulsor has become unsynchronized with the rotational speed of the generator by controlling at least one of the rotational speed of the generator, nozzle area of the individual propulsor, or a pitch angle of the individual propulsor.

An electric supply system for a vehicle system includes two or more electric energy storage devices. Two or more buses each conductively couple an energy storage device with a corresponding load of plural loads. A controller controls conduction of current from one or more of the energy storage devices to one or more other buses to transfer energy to other energy storage devices or other loads. A method includes directing a first energy storage device of a first power supply assembly to supply electric current to a first bus conductively coupling the first energy storage device to one or more first loads onboard the vehicle system. The method further includes conducting the electric current from the first energy storage device to one or more second buses of one or more second power supply assemblies to recharge one or more second energy storage devices or power one or more second loads.

System and Method for Collision Prevention in a Linear Motion System
20210370777 · 2021-12-02 ·

An improved system for preventing collisions between movers while improving throughput in a linear drive system utilizes a continually variable vehicle length for each mover. A vehicle length is assigned to each mover, where the vehicle length is a minimum track length required by the vehicle to avoid physically contacting a neighboring vehicle along the track. The vehicle length for each mover is then determined for each location along the track based on both the track geometry and the mover geometry. The vehicle length is continually variable along the length of the track allowing movers to be positioned as close together as possible for each location along the track based on both the track geometry and the mover geometry. The continually variable vehicle length provides collision prevention between movers while increasing throughput of movers along segments of the track that do not require the largest spacing between movers.

Electric drive system and energy management method

An electric drive system includes an energy storage system (ESS), a power conversion system, and an alternating current (AC) traction system. The ESS provides or receives electric power. The ESS includes a first energy storage unit and a second energy storage unit. The power conversion system is electrically coupled to the ESS for converting an input power to an output power. The AC traction system is electrically coupled to the power conversion system for converting the output power of the power conversion system to mechanical torques. The AC traction system includes a first AC drive device and a second AC drive device. An energy management system (EMS) is in electrical communication with the ESS, the AC traction system, and the power conversion system for providing control signals.
