One part, solids containing decontamination blend composition
A one part, solids containing decontamination blend composition comprises a solid acetyl donor coated with a compound that protects it from hydrolysis, a peroxygen source, optionally a catalyst, optionally a surfactant, and optionally a buffer. The decontamination blend composition is generally in a dry powder, particle, etc form or in a tablet, pill, etc form and is complete in and of itself in that no additional compounds are required prior to use and is readily distributed as a one package system. Upon the addition of water, a peroxygen compound such as hydrogen peroxide is formed, and peracetic acid is generated under alkaline conditions. The decontamination blend composition is particularly suitable for oxidizing various chemical and biological compounds thereby eradicating the same in situ as on surfaces, clothes, articles, and the like. Representative contaminants include mustard gas, nerve gas, bacterial toxins, anthrax, bird flu, and the like.
Compositions, methods, and systems for reducing contamination
Certain exemplary embodiments provide methods for reducing a concentration of a contaminant associated with a medium, which can be any substance or material, such as soil, water, air, and/or fluid. In one exemplary method, the medium is treated with a ferric chelate and an oxidizing agent in amounts effective to oxidize at least a portion of the contaminant.
DECONTAMINATION AND STERILIZATION DEVICE WITH FLEXIBLE ENCLOSING COVER USING PLASMA AND REACTIVE GAS
A device for removing toxic or harmful materials from an inside sealed by a sealed-type flexible enclosing cover, wherein the contaminated surface of the subject of decontamination is covered with the enclosing cover and a reactive gas is introduced thereto, and particularly to a decontamination and sterilization device, wherein a plasma generator is fixed to a enclosing cover and a plasma gas containing an active radical generated from the plasma generator is introduced to the inside sealed by the enclosing cover together with a reactive gas having a hydroxyl group such as hydrogen peroxide (H.sub.2O.sub.2), water (H.sub.2O), or an alcohol (C.sub.nH.sub.2n+1OH) to thus increase the production of a reactive radical, whereby the plasma and the reactive gas are intensively applied to the inside sealed by the enclosing cover, thus increasing the contact with contaminants and realizing more efficient decontamination.
NANOPLATELET METAL OXIDES
Nanoplatelet forms of metal hydroxide and metal oxide are provided, as well as methods for preparing same. The nanoplatelets are suitable for use as fire retardants and as agents for chemical or biological decontamination.
METAL ORGANIC FRAMEWORKS FOR THE CATALYTIC DETOXIFICATION OF CHEMICAL WARFARE NERVE AGENTS
A method of using a metal organic framework (MOF) comprising a metal ion and an at least bidendate organic ligand to catalytically detoxify chemical warfare nerve agents including exposing the metal-organic-framework (MOF) to the chemical warfare nerve agent and catalytically decomposing the nerve agent with the MOF.
Destruction of chemical agents by a wicking compound and high temperature incendiary
Compositions, devices, and methods for destroying chemical warfare agents, independent of their chemical make-up, include (i) at least one reactive metal; (ii) at least one oxidizer; and (iii) a binder. In one embodiment, the self-sustaining reactive composition includes magnesium powder, iron oxide powder, potassium perchlorate powder, and silicone gel. In another embodiment, the self-sustaining reactive composition includes manganese powder, lithium perchlorate powder, lithium peroxide powder, and silicone gel. The reactive metal(s), oxidizer(s), binder, and their respective amounts, are selected such that, following ignition of the composition, the composition is capable of producing a solid mass of ash (wicking composition) that increases the surface area of the chemical agent material and provides a site for combustion and/or thermal degradation of the chemical agent to occur.
Nanoplatelet metal oxides
Nanoplatelet forms of metal hydroxide and metal oxide are provided, as well as methods for preparing same. The nanoplatelets are suitable for use as fire retardants and as agents for chemical or biological decontamination.
Method and formulation for neutralizing toxic chemicals and materials
The present invention is directed to a formulation and associated method for neutralizing one or more toxic chemical and/or materials including toxic industrial chemicals and toxic industrial materials, such as irritants, heavy metals, radioactive metals, acids and acid irritants, pesticides, and various agricultural chemicals, (collectively referred to as toxic chemical, materials, or simply toxins) as well as decontaminating surfaces that have come into contact with these agents. As a result, the formulation of the present invention can be used for neutralizing a broad spectrum of toxic chemicals and materials. In one embodiment, the active ingredient comprises 2, 3, butanedione monoxime (also known as diacetyl monoxime (DAM)), and alkali salts thereof such as potassium 2,3-butanedione monoxime (KBDO). The formulation also typically includes a carrier in which the active ingredient is dispersed. In one embodiment, the carrier comprises polyethylene glycol (PEG); monomethoxypolyethylene glycol (mPEG); and combinations and derivatives thereof.
PRODUCTION OF HIGHLY THERMALLY STABLE RECOMBINANT CHOLINESTERASES FOR THE DETECTION, DETOXIFICATION AND DECONTAMINATION OF ORGANOPHOSPHORUS COMPOUNDS
Disclosed herein are methods for the large-scale production of a highly thermally stable acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE). Additionally, the expression methods disclosed herein can produce ChE preparations consisting of extract or purified forms that can be produced in high amounts and are highly thermally stable. These ChE products can be used in vitro detection, detoxification and decontamination methods.
