Solid state steerable light

A light assembly and method for steering a vehicle headlight illumination pattern. In one aspect, a method includes providing a processor programmed to perform the steps of: illuminating a subset of consecutive LEDs in the line including LEDs associated with the first and second edge illumination fields; as the direction of the vehicle wheels changes: (i) fading the LED associated with one of the first and second illumination fields off while simultaneously fading the LED associated with the other of the first and second illumination fields on thereby changing the illumination pattern; and (ii) repeating step (i) so that the illumination pattern tracks the direction of the vehicle wheels.

A vehicle headlight device capable of improving overlooking of pedestrians by a driver. The device includes: a left-side photoirradiator (left-side pattern irradiation lamp) which irradiates light on a left-side light distribution region (irradiation pattern light distribution region) on a left side of a travel roadway of a vehicle in an irradiation pattern in which a bright region a1 and a dark region are alternately repeated; and a right-side photoirradiator (right-side pattern irradiation lamp) which irradiates light on a right-side light distribution region (irradiation pattern light distribution region) on a right side of a travel roadway of the vehicle in an irradiation pattern in which a bright region a1 and a dark region are alternately repeated. In this embodiment, the left-side photoirradiator (left-side pattern irradiation lamp) is illuminated during left turn of the vehicle, and the right-side photoirradiator (right-side pattern irradiation lamp) is illuminated during right turn of the vehicle.

CONTROL APPARATUS, CONTROL METHOD, AND PROGRAM FOR CONTROLLING VEHICLE HEADLAMPS

In a vehicle headlamp control apparatus, a light distribution control section controls light distribution of a headlamp based on a detected light control target object ahead of a vehicle and a detected behavior of the vehicle or an expected change thereof. When the behavior is in a first behavior state in which a change in the headlamp irradiation area becomes equal to or less than a predetermined amount or the behavior is expected not to change from the first behavior state, the light distribution control section causes the headlamp to project light in a standard pattern. When the behavior is in a second behavior state in which the change in the headlamp irradiation area exceeds the predetermined amount or the behavior is expected to change to the second behavior state, the light distribution control section causes the headlamp to project light in a pattern different from the standard pattern.

Solid state steerable light

A light assembly for generating a light pattern comprising LEDs; a first lens positioned in front of the LEDs to direct light from each LED into an illumination field, the illumination fields of energized LEDs create an illumination pattern and a first edge illumination field and a second edge illumination field; a processor controlling the LED duty cycles to move the illumination pattern in a first direction to the side of the first edge illumination field by (i) increasing an LED duty cycle associated with the first edge illumination field while decreasing an LED duty cycle associated with the second edge illumination field; and (ii) repeating step (i) with the illumination field adjacent the first edge illumination field in the first direction as the first edge illumination field and with the illumination field adjacent the second edge illumination field in the first direction as the second edge illumination field.
