Vehicular trailering assist system with hitch ball detection

A vehicular trailer assist system includes a camera at a vehicle and viewing at least a portion of a trailer hitched to the vehicle. A control, responsive to processing of frames of image data captured by the camera and during a calibration maneuver by the vehicle, determines an initial trailer template of trailer hitched to the vehicle. The control, during a turning portion of the calibration maneuver, and at least in part via processing of frames of image data captured by the camera, determines a hitch ball location of a hitch of the vehicle based on the determined initial trailer template. The control, after completion of the calibration maneuver, determines a current trailer angle of the trailer relative to the vehicle via processing of frames of image data captured by the camera and based on the determined hitch ball location as the vehicle is driven along a road.

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR DETECTING A TRAILER

A method for determining a location of a trailer in an image includes obtaining at least one real-time image from a vehicle. The at least one real-time image is processed with a controller on the vehicle to obtain a feature patch describing at least one real-time image. A convolution is performed of the feature patch and each filter from a set of filters with the filter being based on data representative of known trailers. A location of a trailer is determined in the at least one real-time image based on the convolution between the feature patch and each filter from the set of filters.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DETERMINING AN ARTICULATED TRAILER ANGLE

Systems and methods determine an angle of an articulated trailer relative to a tractor that the trailer is hitched to. An optical encoder is positioned beneath a fifth-wheel of a tractor to couples with a kingpin of the trailer when the trailer is hitched to the tractor. The optical coupler has a rotating shaft that may include pins that physically interact with the kingpin and/or may include a magnet that magnetically attaches to the kingpin. A clearance and cleaning block may be positioned on the spring plate to interact with a bottom surface of a kingpin of the trailer during hitching of the trailer to the tractor. A LIDAR attached to the tractor may detect a front end of the trailer to determine the trailer angle relative to the tractor.

IMAGE BASED TRAILER WHEELBASE DETERMINATION

A method for determining a trailer detection parameter of a trailer including receiving an image from at least one camera at a controller. The at least one camera defines a field of view including at least a portion of a vehicle trailer. The method determines a trailer angle of the vehicle trailer relative to a tractor, identifies at least one feature in an image of the trailer, determines a two-dimensional distance from the at least one feature to a predefined position on the image, and converts the two-dimensional distance to a three-dimensional distance based at least in part on the determined angle. The three-dimensional distance is a trailer detection parameter of the trailer.

METHOD FOR MOVING A VEHICLE TO A COMPONENT OF AN OBJECT AT A DISTANCE THEREFROM (PRE-POSITIONING POINT)
20220396107 · 2022-12-15 ·

A method for moving a vehicle to a component of an object at a distance therefrom, the vehicle having a navigation module which has a camera and an evaluation electronics, and an identification element is attached to the object in a predetermined position in such a way that it is recognized by the camera in a far range (D.sub.max) of the vehicle from the object, and a reverse driving line of the vehicle is calculated by the evaluation electronics from the perspective position of the camera in relation to the identification element. The method improves the approach of a vehicle to a stationary object. A close-range (D.sub.min) is defined in the direction of the object by a close-range radius (R.sub.min) and the reverse driving line is calculated up to a virtual pre-positioning point (S.sub.Vi, S.sub.Vii, S.sub.Viii) lying on the close-range radius (R.sub.min).

METHOD FOR MOVING A VEHICLE TO A COMPONENT OF AN OBJECT AT A DISTANCE THEREFROM (COORDINATE TRANSFORMATION)

In a start position (S) of the vehicle, the navigation module generates a static object coordinate system (K.sub.O) and a reverse driving line is calculated from the start position (S) to a pre-positioning point (S.sub.Vi, S.sub.Vii, S.sub.Viii).

Trailer detection and autonomous hitching

A method for autonomously maneuvering a tow vehicle towards a trailer positioned behind the tow vehicle is provided. The method includes receiving one or more images from one or more cameras positioned on a back portion of the tow vehicle. The method also includes identifying a trailer representation within the one or more images. The trailer representation being indicative of the trailer positioned behind the tow vehicle. The method also includes setting a vertical center of the trailer representation as a target. The method also includes determining a first steering wheel angle to turn the tow vehicle such that the vehicle autonomously maneuvers in a direction towards the target. The method also includes transmitting instructions to a drive system causing the tow vehicle to maneuver based on the first steering wheel angle.

Hitch assistance system with interface presenting simplified path image
