An equipment rack for use with a vehicle is described having a sliding member translatably attached to a lower cross member of the rack. The sliding member translates outwardly from the rack to a loading and unloading position. In the loading and unloading position, sports equipment may be placed on or removed from the sliding member. When the sports equipment has been loaded the sliding member may be translated back toward the rack into a stowed position. The housing has a hollow interior adapted to receive the securement strap. The hollow interior is surrounded by a bottom wall and sidewalls to contain the securement strap, and has an open top to receive the securement strap into the hollow interior. At least one of the sidewalls has a hole therethrough. The lid is attached to the housing at the open top by a hinge. The lid being pivotable relative to the housing about the hinge between a closed position wherein access to the hollow interior is denied and an opened position in which access to the hollow interior is enabled. The lid is latchable to the housing to deny pivoting relative thereto and thereby deny receipt and removal of the securement strap. The hole is shaped and disposed to allow the crank to pass there-through to the exterior of the housing when the securement strap is received into the hollow interior, such that the crank may be used as a handle for carrying the combination.

A vehicle restriction mechanism and a vehicle carrier including the same are provided, and the vehicle restriction mechanism is configured to be disposed on a supporting arm of the vehicle carrier and includes a base and a stem member. The base includes a sleeve portion, and the sleeve portion defines an axial direction. An aperture is disposed through the rear panel. A tailgate support member includes a front wall, a rear wall, and an upper wall extending therebetween defining an interior channel. The interior channel receives a tailgate of the vehicle therein, such that the tailgate support member is removably secured to the tailgate. A pair of support rods extend from the upper wall to engage a rung of a ladder.

A vacuum-based hitch rack carrier system for a vehicle having a rear hitch and rear hitch receiver. The system includes a plurality of vacuum devices having a pad shaped and sized to removably seat with a vehicle to form a vacuum cavity, a plunger attached to the pad and in fluid communication with the vacuum cavity, and an indicator associated with the vacuum device to indicate the level of vacuum pressure within the vacuum.
