An attachment device for a load carrier includes a housing, a first attachment member, a second attachment member, an actuation member, and a locking system. The first and second attachment members apply a clamping force to an elongate member (such as a cross bar of a roof rack) between the first attachment member and the second attachment member. The actuation member is configured to apply a closing force to the first attachment member and is maneuverable from an open position to a closed position. The locking system is configured to resiliently accumulate a portion of the closing force when the closing force applied to the actuation member or the first attachment member exceeds a predefined load, regardless of the size of the elongate member but within a range of motion of the first and second attachment members, during the transition from its open position to its locked position.

The first clamp unit includes multiple pairs of first bars. A first space is formed between each pair of the first bars. Multiple restriction members are slidably mounted to each pair of the first bars. The second clamp unit includes multiple pairs of second bars. A second space is formed between each pair of the second bars. An end bar is connected to each of the first clamp unit and the second clamp unit to close up the first spaces and the second spaces. Skis and snowboards are restricted in the first and second spaces. The end bars prevent the skis and snowboards from dropping from the first and second spaces.

The equipment rack for attaching equipment to the roof of a vehicle includes a rack assembly that may be folded from a stowed position to an operational position. The rack assembly is attached to the vehicle by a hinge and a positional latch mechanism to selectively retain the rack assembly in the stowed position or the operational position. The user of the rack may selectively pivot the rack assembly from one position to another. The pivotal latch mechanism may retain the rack assembly in one, two, or more desired positions. Some versions of the latch mechanism utilize a shuttle member in one element that engages a socket in the other element. Other versions of the latch mechanism utilize surfaces on the rack assembly and the hinge interact to retain the rack assembly at desired positions.

A vehicle roof rack system includes a body member, a flexible rack attachment member, and a connecting strap. The body member has at least one support surface arranged to support an object to be mounted to a vehicle. The flexible rack attachment member extends from the body member. A cavity is defined between the body member and the rack attachment member, and the cavity is sized to removably receive a portion of cross-bar of the vehicle. The connecting strap is connected to the rack attachment member and configured to wrap around a portion of the object supported on the at least one support surface. Tightening the connecting strap flexes the rack attachment member to apply a compression force that secures the vehicle roof rack system to the cross-bar.
