EXERCISE MACHINE

Described herein are embodiments of stationary exercise machines having reciprocating foot and/or hand members, such as foot pedals that move in a closed loop path. Some embodiments can include reciprocating foot pedals that cause a user's feet to move along a closed loop path that is substantially inclined, such that the foot motion simulates a climbing motion more than a flat walking or running motion. Some embodiments can further include reciprocating handles that are configured to move in coordination with the foot via a linkage to a crank wheel also coupled to the foot pedals. Variable resistance can be provided via a rotating air-resistance based mechanism, via a magnetism based mechanism, and/or via other mechanisms, one or more of which can be rapidly adjustable while the user is using the machine.

Multifunctional therapy device

A therapy device aids an occupational therapist in soft tissue recovery and development. The device includes an attachment base which anchors to a table or other support surface, a riser pivotably connected to the base with 2-3 degrees of freedom, and a handle connected to the riser with an additional 2-3 degrees of freedom. Each pivotable connection can be adjusted to rotate freely or with a desired level of friction, or can be locked in a desired configuration. Multiple interchangeable handles may be included to adjust the patient-device interface, e.g., unilateral or bilateral engagement. Height adjustments may also be provided. The dual-pivoting design and adjustability of the device facilitates applications for a wide variety of patients with varying therapeutic needs, such that the device provides a highly.

Treadmill with intermediate member

A treadmill is provided according to various embodiments. The treadmill includes a first rotatable element coupled to the frame; a second rotatable element coupled to the frame; an intermediate member coupled to the frame that is disposed intermediate the first rotatable element and the second rotatable element and coupled to at least one of the first rotatable element and the second rotatable element; a running belt disposed about the first and second rotatable elements, the running belt defining a non-planar surface; and a safety device coupled to the intermediate member. The safety device is operable to substantially prevent rotation of at least one of the first rotatable element and the second rotatable element in a first rotational direction and permit rotation of the at least one of the first rotatable element and the second rotatable element in a second rotational direction opposite the first rotational direction.

An exercise machine creates a simulated continuous resisted climbing motion. The machine includes a floor- or ground-contacting base frame and two or more substantially vertically oriented uprights, wherein at least one upright is rigidly connected to the base frame. The machine further includes two handles and two foot pedals, each handle and each foot pedal being movably engaged with an upright for linear reciprocating motion along the upright. The handles and foot pedals are interconnected so that they move concurrently. An adjustable resistance mechanism may be operatively connected to the interconnection of the handles and foot pedals to provide adjustable resistance for the simulated continuous climbing motion.
