Front passenger seat airbag

A front passenger seat airbag includes an attachment portion provided on a front end side when inflation has been completed, an occupant protection portion provided on a rear end side to protect the occupant when inflation has been completed, and a cavity portion formed at an intermediate portion between the attachment portion and the occupant protection portion in a manner of penetrating the front passenger seat airbag substantially along a left-right direction. A left edge side and/or a right edge side of the occupant protection portion when inflation has been completed is formed with a protruding region protruding rearward and outward with respect to a central region. At least one of upper and lower edges of an occupant side panel is coupled to an end of the peripheral wall panel. An outer peripheral panel portion of the panel portion is a concave portion in a flatly deployed state.

SLEEPING BEDSHEET CRASH PROTECTION SYSTEM FOR LIE-FLAT SLEEPING PASSENGER

A sleeping occupant crash protection system includes an occupant sleeping compartment positioned within an autonomous vehicle. A substantially flat platform of the occupant sleeping compartment supports an occupant reclining in a horizontal sleep position. An elastic bedsheet is positioned in direct contact with an upper surface of the platform positioned between the occupant and the platform. A sensing system is in communication with the occupant sleeping compartment and triggers deployment of a bedsheet displacement system during a vehicle rapid deceleration event.

SEAT AIRBAG DEVICE FOR VEHICLE AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING OPERATION THEREOF

A seat airbag apparatus for a vehicle and a method of controlling the operation thereof, includes side cushions deployed from the seatback, front cushions configured to be deployed from the side cushions, and inflators for the side cushions and inflators for the front cushions. The deployment operation of the side cushions and the deployment operation of the front cushions are respectively controlled depending on a normal seating mode and a relax mode of an occupant and a side collision and a front collision of the vehicle.

VEHICLE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT SYSTEM HAVING FRONT AIRBAG AND SIDE AIRBAG

The invention relates to a restraint system for a vehicle occupant (26) in a motor vehicle, comprising a front airbag (28), in particular a driver's airbag, and a side airbag (14), in particular a curtain airbag. In the inflated state, the side airbag (14) is arranged and shaped in such a way that, in the event of a glancing impact of the vehicle occupant (26) on the front airbag (28), the side airbag (14) provides no significant support for the front airbag (28) in the vehicle transverse direction (y) in a front open region (20), relative to the direction of travel (x) of the vehicle, of the vehicle side below the A-pillar (12).

Head protection airbag device

A head protection airbag device includes an airbag including a front seat protection portion, and an end side expansion portion, and a partition closing portion. The airbag is configured to be provided with a single receiving area where the head which moves diagonally forward at the time of an oblique collision or an offset collision of the vehicle is received by the front seat protection portion, and a collaborative receiving area where the head is received by the front seat protection portion and the end side expansion portion. The partition closing portion is linearly provided to be inclined forward and downward in a state where the airbag is viewed from a side when the expansion of the airbag is completed. The collaborative receiving area includes vehicle inner side surfaces of the end side expansion portion and the front seat protection portion with the partition closing portion interposed therebetween.

Off-zone crash detection using lateral accelerations at different positions in a vehicle

Detecting off-zone crashes involving a vehicle using lateral acceleration values detected at locations within the vehicle. In one example method, an electronic processor receives a first acceleration value at a centerline of the vehicle from a first acceleration sensor of at least two acceleration sensors. The electronic processor also receives a second acceleration value at the centerline of the vehicle from a second acceleration sensor of the at least two acceleration sensors. The method also includes deriving, with the electronic processor, an approximate yaw acceleration at the centerline of the vehicle based on the first acceleration value and the second acceleration value. The method also includes comparing, with the electronic processor, the approximate yaw acceleration to a threshold and initiating, with the electronic processor, one or more actions in response to the yaw acceleration exceeding the threshold.

The airbag device includes an airbag including a base fabric and an occupant protection fabric whose outer peripheries are joined together. The occupant protection fabric is positioned on the vehicle rear side of the base fabric and configured to restrain an occupant, and includes: at least one protruding portion that protrudes to the vehicle rear side; a flat portion that is continuously formed from the at least one protruding portion and is designed to come into contact with the occupant; and a tether that is disposed between the base fabric and the at least one protruding portion in the airbag, extending from the flat portion to the joint between the occupant protection fabric and the base fabric. The tether is joined at its end on the joint side with a base edge of the at least one protruding portion and the outer periphery of the base fabric.

Frontal airbag

A frontal airbag for vehicle occupants comprises a contact panel (26) facing the vehicle occupant in the inflated state. Inside the airbag tension means (30, 30′) which restrain portions of the contact panel (26) in the inflated state of the frontal airbag (10) are arranged on the contact panel (26) so that, in the mounted and inflated state, the contact panel (26) forms plural indentations (32) extending vertically from the view of the associated occupant. The frontal airbag (10) optionally may take a first completely inflated state and a second completely inflated state with a larger airbag volume than in the first state, wherein a release device (40) is assigned to at least several of the tension means (30, 30′) and, when the release device is not activated, the frontal airbag (10) only reaches the first state and, when the release device (40) is activated, the contact panel (26) bulges in the area of the released tension means (30, 30′) further toward the occupant so as to enable the second state.

An apparatus for helping to protect a vehicle occupant includes an airbag having primary and secondary chambers fluidly connected by a first passive vent and an active vent having an open condition and a closed condition. The primary chamber has a stored condition and a deployed condition to cover a portion of the vehicle. An interior panel divides the primary chamber into upper and lower inflatable volumes and includes a second passive vent fluidly connecting the upper and lower inflatable volumes. The secondary chamber has a stored condition and a deployed condition to cover portions of the vehicle left uncovered by the primary chamber. An inflator is actuatable to provide inflation fluid to the primary chamber. The active vent is controllable to prevent fluid communication between the primary and secondary chambers in response to occupant penetration into the primary chamber and controllable to allow fluid communication between the primary and secondary chambers in response to occupant penetration into the secondary chamber. The second passive vent automatically closes to prevent fluid flow from the lower inflatable volume to the upper inflatable volume in response to occupant penetration into the secondary chamber.
