Airbag device

An airbag device of the disclosure includes an airbag module that is installed in a central region of a steering wheel of a vehicle, and that accommodates an airbag that can deploy behind the steering wheel when a driver is seated in the driver's seat. The airbag module has an airbag inflation control unit that controls an inflation direction of the airbag in such a manner as to allow the airbag to inflate above the airbag module, after the airbag has inflated in such a direction as to abut on the driver's chest at the time of deployment of the airbag.

The at least one clip can have an upper surface facing an upper surface of the clip aperture opening, and the upper surface of the at least one clip can be at an acute angle with respect to the deployment axis. The acute angle upper surface can extend from an interior of the air bag chute through the clip aperture and to an exterior of the air bag chute.

Aspects of the disclosure relate to deployable structures, such as airbag systems, for vehicles. A system is disclosed for reducing likelihood of injury to a passenger in a collision. The system may include a seat configured to accommodate the passenger and an airbag system. At least a portion of the airbag system may be incorporated into a vehicle prior to deployment of the airbag system. The airbag system may include an airbag and a locking feature. The locking feature may be configured to lock the airbag with a locking portion of a vehicle when the airbag system has been deployed. The locking feature may be attached to the airbag. Aside from airbags, other confining structures, such as nets, shades, curtains, etc., may also be used as deployable structures.

A collapse-limiting assembly for a steering system is provided. The collapse-limiting assembly comprises a housing and a moveable member. A pyrotechnic charge is located in the housing and, in response to an impact event, is caused to fire the moveable member into a discharged position and limit the amount of collapse of a steering column. The steering column includes at least two axially moveable portions that move axially relative to each other between an extended position and a retracted position. When the moveable member is fired into the discharged position, it is located in a travel path of at least one of the axially moveable portions.

Systems and methods for deploying airbags are disclosed comprising a conveyor belt having plurality of airbag module deploy boxes. A processing area is included wherein a first end of the conveyor belt passes into the processing area, and wherein undeployed airbag modules are loaded into the plurality of deploy boxes. A deployment area is also included that is separate from the processing area, wherein a second end of the conveyor belt passes into the deployment area. At the deployment area the undeployed airbags are deployed by applying an electrical signal to the undeployed airbag modules. A collection bin is included at the second end of the conveyor belt to collect the deployed airbags.
