A vehicle occupant protection device includes: a three-point seatbelt designed to be worn so as to cross the body of an occupant sitting in a seat of a vehicle; a force limiter that applies tension to the three-point seatbelt; an airbag device having an airbag designed to deploy in front of the upper body of the occupant sitting in the seat so as to support the upper body and head that are going to be thrown forward, the airbag having an upper-side portion, an outer-side portion, and an inner-side portion capable of deploying at different pressure levels; a controller that activates the force limiter and the airbag device upon a collision; and an occupant identification device that identifies the physique of the occupant sitting in the seat. The controller changes deployment of each portion of the airbag in accordance with the identified physique.

A vehicle seatbelt device includes: a three-point seatbelt, a tongue having a long hole through which an intermediate portion of the seatbelt is inserted, a buckle that has a buckle main body at which the tongue is anchored and a stay that extends from the buckle main body toward a vehicle lower side and is connected to the vehicle seat, a forward tilting mechanism that tilts the stay toward a seat front side at a time of a vehicle collision or at a time a vehicle collision is predicted, and a shoulder pretensioner that pulls in a shoulder belt of the seatbelt at a time of a vehicle collision, wherein a lower end portion of the buckle main body and an upper end portion of the stay are connected rotatably around an axis along a seat transverse direction.

Tubular seat belt system having air delivery

A vehicle seat belt system is provided. The vehicle seat belt system includes a seat belt comprising a tubular seat belt webbing defining a passageway and a plurality of pressure control valves and a seat belt buckle for connecting to the seat belt. The seat belt buckle has an air delivery port for delivering air to the passenger, and an air delivery device supplies air to the seat belt, wherein the valves allow the supplied air to exit the seat belt at a first air pressure and block air from exiting at a second pressure.

Plus-two belt reminder system

A plus-two belt system is provided. The plus-two belt system is a supplement to a traditional three-point belt system. The plus-two belt system has a longitudinal webbing anchored at a first end and coiled on a retractor at a second end. When an occupant is sensed and the vehicle engine is on, a reminder chime can sound when a magnetic strip in the webbing of the plus-two belt system is detected. The magnetic strip can be detected with a Hall effect sensor and the Hall effect sensor can be located adjacent the retractor.

SEATBELT ASSEMBLY

A restraint system includes a first member including a first hole and fixable to a seat frame, a second member including a second hole and slidably coupled to the first member between a retracted position in which the first and second holes are aligned and an extended position in which the first and second holes are spaced from each other, a buckle housing fixed to the second member, and a tongue including a third hole and insertable into the buckle housing to an inserted position in which the second and third holes are aligned.

Retrofit seat belt system

Systems and methods for installing retrofit seat belt systems with structural support for the lap and shoulder belts, while at the same time providing a low cost solution. In particular, some, or all of the loads, as required, are shared by an added support structure connected rigidly to a structural base, e.g., of a bus or other vehicle, via a base plate. As such the present teachings achieve compartmentalization around passengers in the event of a crash. Furthermore, unlike prior retrofit seat belt designs, the systems and methods of the present teachings uniquely facilitate a seamless transition for the different seat configurations and do not require complete replacement of the seats.

SEATBELT PRETENSIONING RETRACTOR ASSEMBLY

A seatbelt pretensioning retractor assembly for use in a passenger vehicle is provided. The pretensioning assembly includes a one-piece tread head pinion including a ring portion having a plurality of teeth and a pair of flanges on each side of the teeth. The tread head pinion is formed as a single piece and includes a shaft extending from a side and a bearing portion extending from a second side. A bending element mounting portion extends from the bearing portion. The one-piece tread head pinion is attached to a spindle via a torsion bar, and the spindle bears against the bearing portion when the spindle rotates relative to the tread head pinion. The one-piece tread head pinion may include a staking cavity extending into the bearing portion with a staking wall that is deformable toward a digressive bending element inserted into the staking cavity.

Seat System for a Motor Vehicle

A seat system for a motor vehicle has at least one vehicle seat, which can be adjusted between a first position in the forward direction of travel of the motor vehicle, and a second position counter to the forward direction of travel of the motor vehicle. A safety belt device is provided to secure an occupant seated in the vehicle seat in the first and second position. An optimized system in terms of weight, complexity and manufacturing costs, has the safety belt device include a respective belt system, held on corresponding holding points on the motor vehicle body-in-white side, for the first and for the second position of the vehicle seat.
