There is disclosed an energy absorption device comprising a plurality of pillars mountable to a ceiling of a hull, each pillar having a fixed portion and a movable portion, the movable portion slidable relative to the fixed portion; a deformable material disposed between the fixed portion and movable portion such that the deformable material resist the sliding movement of the movable portion in one direction; the deformable material further adapted to permanently deform when a blast energy is directed towards the ceiling; and a seat assembly attached to the movable portion, the seat assembly adapted for an occupant.
Ratcheting web tightening apparatus for a multi-point motor vehicle seat restraint system
A web tightening apparatus is disclosed for a multi-point restraint harness having a web extendable about an occupant of a motor vehicle seat. A base frame is mounted between the seat and a floor of a motor vehicle, a web turning guide is mounted to and within the base frame with the web extending into the base frame and through the web turning guide, a ratcheting device is mounted to the base frame and has a handle, and a ratcheting web is coupled at one end to the web extending from the web turning guide and coupled at an opposite end to the ratcheting device. The ratcheting device is responsive to ratcheting actuation of the handle to draw the ratcheting web therein, wherein movement of the ratcheting web into the ratcheting device draws the web further into the base frame and thereby tightens the web about the occupant.
Four and six-point seat belt systems
A seat belt assembly includes a first lap belt portion having an anchored end and a first plate, and a second lap belt portion having an anchored end and a second plate. A first shoulder belt having a retractor end and a buckle end extends through a first slot in the first plate between the retractor end and the buckle end. A second shoulder belt having a retractor end and a tongue end extends through a first slot in the second plate between the retractor end and the tongue end. The buckle end is fixedly attached to a buckle and the tongue end is fixedly attached to a tongue. The buckle and the tongue are releasably attachable.
Seat for a law enforcement vehicle and method of use
Disclosed is a method of use of a movable seat for a law enforcement vehicle. A method of restraining a detainee within a vehicle may include the steps of: opening a door on a vehicle comprising a movable seat; retracting the movable seat from a first position in the vehicle to a second position adjacent the door of the vehicle; seating a detainee in the movable seat of the vehicle; wherein the detainee's hands are restrained behind its back; positioning the detainee's hands in an opening in a back of the movable seat; restraining the detainee in the movable seat with a seat belt coupled to the movable seat; returning the movable seat to the first position inside the vehicle; and closing the door on the vehicle.
Interlocking web connectors for occupant restraint systems and associated methods of use and manufacture
Web connectors for use in occupant restraint systems in a vehicle are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, first and second web connectors include first and second web receiving portions, respectively. The first web receiving portion includes a first projection at a first side and a first recess adjacent a second side opposite the first side. The first recess includes a first surface feature. The second web receiving portion includes a second recess and a second projection having a second surface feature. In this embodiment, the second recess is configured to receive the first projection, the first recess is configured to receive the second projection, and the first surface feature is configured to engage the second surface feature to resist movement between the first and second connectors during use.
Side seat harness restraint system
A harness and restraint system for side facing seats, which is asymmetric and unique for each side of the vehicle. The absence of a leading shoulder strap minimizes neck and cervical injury in the event of impact from the front of the vehicle, such impact being the most likely direction of impact. The combination of internally mounted automatic locking restraint and fixed or automatic locking lap belt and asymmetric harness geometry captures the trailing shoulder reducing rotation and also provides restraint for the pelvis and torso during lateral impacts.
ROTATABLE SEAT ENERGY ABSORPTION
A vehicle seat is rotatable about an axis perpendicular to a vehicle floor from a forward-facing position to a rear-facing position. The seat includes a seat bottom and a seat back. A seat belt assembly extends at least partially from the seat back. At least one airbag is incorporated into the seat belt assembly and is deployable when the vehicle seat is rotated to at least one of the rear-facing position and a position between the forward-facing position and the rear-facing position.
Four-point seatbelt device
In a four-point seatbelt device including a three-point seatbelt and an automatic belt, the automatic belt is actuated to dispose an anchor at a standby position after the three-point seatbelt has been placed over an occupant. During this operation, the anchor is disposed further to a rear side than a field of vision of the occupant facing toward a front side, for example, and a second webbing is placed in standby in an unrestrained state with respect to the occupant. Moreover, in a case in which a vehicle collision has been predicted by a PCS control section, the automatic belt is actuated to place the second webbing over the occupant automatically.
