ENERGY ABSORBING RESTRAINT SYSTEMS, SUCH AS FOR USE WITH CHILD SEATS
Energy absorbing restraint systems for use with child seats and other devices are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, an energy absorbing restraint system includes a web slide and a web. The web slide can include first and second web apertures extending therethrough. The web can be threaded (a) through the first web aperture from a first side to a second side of the web slide and (b) back through the second web aperture from the second side to the first side of the web slide. The web is attached to itself with, for example, rip stitching to form a joined portion adjacent the second side of the web slide. When a shock load above a preset level is quickly applied to the web, the web is pulled against the web slide to rupture the rip stitching and absorb the shock load transmitted by the web.
Vehicle seat belt retractor
A seat belt retractor includes a core having an outer surface, a cover having an inner surface facing the outer surface. and a plurality of tubes between the cover and the core. The plurality of tubes is deformable relative to at least one of the core and the cover. Each tube has an outer periphery. The entire periphery of each tube is movable relative to the outer surface and the inner surface.
Three-point seatbelt device
A three-point seatbelt device includes: a webbing configured to function as a shoulder belt and a lap belt; a shoulder-side reeler that includes a pre-tensioner mechanism and a shoulder-side force limiter mechanism, and is configured to reel up an end portion of the webbing on a shoulder belt side so as to allow the webbing to be pulled out; a tongue mounted on the webbing; and an inner belt including a buckle to which the tongue is coupled, the inner belt including, of a pre-tensioner mechanism and a buckle-side force limiter mechanism, only the buckle-side force limiter mechanism. An initial load of the buckle-side force limiter mechanism is set to be larger than an initial load of the shoulder-side force limiter mechanism.
Load limiting seat belt buckle assemblies
A seat belt buckle assembly includes a buckle housing; a plate extending from the buckle housing and defining a slot; and a bracket including a rivet engaged in the slot. The plate and rivet are configured such that, in response to an impact force that exceeds a threshold acting to pull the buckle housing away from the bracket, the slot plastically deforms, permitting the buckle housing and plate to translate relative to the bracket.
Safety belt including plate-type load limiter
A load limiter may include a load limiter body to which a downward pulling force and an upward pulling force are applied together in opposite directions, wherein the load limiter absorbs energy by deformation to limit the downward pulling force in a multi-stage manner and simultaneously absorbs energy by deformation to limit the upward pulling force in a multi-stage manner.
VEHICLE SEAT BELT DEVICE
A vehicle seat belt device that includes: a load transmitting member that is formed in a flexible elongate shape, an end portion, at a seat rear side, of the load transmitting member being engaged with an anchor that is secured, at a seat rear side and at a seat lower side of a seat cushion, to a vehicle body or a vehicle seat, and an end portion, at a seat front side, of the load transmitting member being engaged with a pretensioner that is provided at the seat front side and at the seat lower side of the seat cushion and which, upon activation, pulls the seat front-side end portion of the load transmitting member inside the pretensioner; and a guide portion that is provided integrally with a buckle and that abuts a middle portion of the load transmitting member.
Energy absorbing restraint web assembly including a visual deployment indicator
An energy-absorbing restraint web assembly may include a motor vehicle seat restraint web and an energy absorption web having a first length, a first end attached to the restraint web at a first location thereof and a second end, opposite the first end of the energy absorption web, attached to the restraint web at a second location thereof, the energy absorption web responsive to a transverse force applied to the restraint web between first and second ends thereof that is greater than a threshold force to elongate and absorb energy while elongating, wherein the restraint web defines a second length between the first and second locations thereof, the second length of the restraint web greater than the first length of the energy absorption web such that the overall length of the restraint web increases as the energy absorption web elongates.
Seatbelt assembly
A seatbelt assembly that includes a tongue assembly having a weblock mounted to a tongue selectively securable to a buckle; a webbing extends through the weblock between a torso portion and a lap portion; and with the weblock allowing for the webbing to slide between the torso and lap portions when in an unlocked position and pivoting relative to the tongue when in a locked position to reorient the torso portion extending from the tongue.
Energy absorbing restraint system
A restraint system includes a housing defining a cavity tapering to an end and a plug disposed in the cavity. The plug is larger than the end of the housing. A seatbelt buckle is fixed relative to one of the housing and the plug and is moveable from a first position to a second position relative to the other of the housing and the plug. The plug is moveable relative to the housing toward the end during movement from the first position to the second position. One of the housing and the plug is plastically deformable by the other of the housing and the plug during movement from the first position to the second position.
