A light emitting device includes a metal support structure comprising Cu; an adhesion structure on the metal support structure and comprising Au; a reflective conductive contact on the adhesion structure; a GaN-based semiconductor structure on the reflective conductive contact, the GaN-based semiconductor structure comprising a first-type GaN layer, an active layer, and a second-type GaN layer; a top interface layer on the GaN-based semiconductor structure and comprising Ti; and a contact pad on the top interface layer and comprising Au, wherein the GaN-based semiconductor structure is less than 1/20 thick of a thickness of the metal support structure.

A light-emitting device comprises a substrate having a top surface and a plurality of patterned units protruding from the top surface; and a light-emitting stack formed on the substrate and having an active layer with a first surface substantially parallel to the top surface, wherein one of the plurality of patterned units comprises a plurality of connecting sides constituting a polygon shape in a top view of the light-emitting device, the one of the plurality of patterned units comprises a vertex and a plurality of inclined surfaces respectively extending from the plurality of connecting sides, the plurality of inclined surfaces commonly join at the vertex in a cross-sectional view of the light-emitting device, the vertex being between the top surface of the substrate and the first surface of the active layer, and six of the plurality of patterned units forms a hexagon in the top view of the light-emitting device.
HIGH EFFICIENCY LEDS AND LED LAMPS
In various embodiments, lighting systems include an electrically insulating carrier having a plurality of conductive elements disposed thereon and a light-emitting array. The light-emitting array is disposed over the carrier and includes a plurality of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that each has at least two electrical contacts electrically connected to conductive elements by an electrical connection featuring solder.
TECHNIQUES FOR FORMING OPTOELECTRONIC DEVICES
Embodiments relate to use of a particle accelerator beam to form thin films of material from a bulk substrate are described. In particular embodiments, a bulk substrate having a top surface is exposed to a beam of accelerated particles. In certain embodiments, this bulk substrate may comprise GaN; in other embodiments this bulk substrate may comprise (111) single crystal silicon. Then, a thin film or wafer of material is separated from the bulk substrate by performing a controlled cleaving process along a cleave region formed by particles implanted from the beam. In certain embodiments this separated material is incorporated directly into an optoelectronic device, for example a GaN film cleaved from GaN bulk material. In some embodiments, this separated material may be employed as a template for further growth of semiconductor materials (e.g. GaN) that are useful for optoelectronic devices.
Method for producing a semiconductor layer sequence
A method for producing a semiconductor layer sequence is disclosed. In an embodiment the includes growing a first nitridic semiconductor layer at the growth side of a growth substrate, growing a second nitridic semiconductor layer having at least one opening on the first nitridic semiconductor layer, removing at least pail of the first nitridic semiconductor layer through the at least one opening in the second nitridic semiconductor layer, growing a third nitridic semiconductor layer on the second nitridic semiconductor layer, wherein the third nitridic semiconductor layer covers the at least one opening at least in places in such a way that at least one cavity free of a semiconductor material is present between the growth substrate and a subsequent semiconductor layers and removing the growth substrate.
Ultraviolet light emitting element and electrical device using same
An ultraviolet light emitting element includes a light emitting layer, a cap layer, an electron barrier layer. The light emitting layer has a multi-quantum well structure including barrier layers each including a first AlGaN layer and well layers each including a second AlGaN layer. The electron barrier layer includes at least one first p-type AlGaN layer and at least one second p-type AlGaN layer. The cap layer is located between the first p-type AlGaN layer and one of the well layers closest to the first p-type AlGaN layer. The cap layer is a third AlGaN layer having an Al composition ratio greater than an Al composition ratio of each of the well layers and less than an Al composition ratio of the first p-type AlGaN layer. The cap layer has a thickness of greater than or equal to 1 nm and less than or equal to 7 nm.
Nitride semiconductor light emitting element
Provided is a nitride semiconductor light emitting element in which deep-level light emission is suppressed, monochromaticity is improved, and light is emitted in a high-efficiency manner. A nitride semiconductor light emitting element having a light-emitting layer between an n-type nitride semiconductor layer and a p-type nitride semiconductor layer, wherein the n-type nitride semiconductor layer contains Al.sub.nGa.sub.1-nN (0<n1), and has a C concentration of 110.sup.17/cm.sup.3 or less.

A light emitting diode (LED) includes a substrate, a first semiconductor layer disposed on the substrate, an active layer disposed on the first semiconductor layer, a second semiconductor layer disposed on the active layer, a first conductive layer disposed on a portion of the second semiconductor layer, a second conductive layer disposed on the second semiconductor layer, and an insulation layer including a first insulating layer and a second insulating layer disposed on the first insulating layer, and overlapping the first semiconductor layer, the second semiconductor layer, and the second conductive layer, in which the insulation layer has a first region having different thicknesses and a second region having a substantially constant thickness.

Disclosed are a light emitting device and a light emitting device package. The light emitting device includes a light emitting structure including a first conductive semiconductor layer, an active layer on the first conductive semiconductor layer, and a second conductive semiconductor layer on the active layer, an adhesive layer contacting a top surface of the first conductive semiconductor layer, a first electrode contacting a top surface of the first conductive semiconductor and a top surface of the adhesive layer, and a second electrode contacting the second conductive semiconductor layer, wherein the adhesive layer contacting the first electrode is spaced apart from the second electrode.
Light emitting diode package and method of manufacture
A light emitting diode (LED) device and packaging for same is disclosed. In some aspects, the LED is manufactured using a vertical configuration including a plurality of layers. Certain layers act to promote mechanical, electrical, thermal, or optical characteristics of the device. The device avoids design problems, including manufacturing complexities, costs and heat dissipation problems found in conventional LED devices. Some embodiments include a plurality of optically permissive layers, including an optically permissive cover substrate or wafer stacked over a semiconductor LED and positioned using one or more alignment markers.
