An elliptical exercise device has a frame and guide link pivotally attached thereto. A foot support link is pivotally connected to a lower attachment point of each guide link so that when the guide links pivot relative to the frame, foot receiving areas of the foot support links move in a path of travel having a horizontal component of motion. A cam drive has cams supported for rotation about an axis of rotation and pivoting arms each engaging one of the cams such that rotation of the cams causes movement of the pivoting arms. Flexible elements couple the foot support links to the pivoting arms such that rotation of the cams moves the foot receiving areas of the respective foot support links in a path of travel having a vertical component of motion.

When the pedal is driven, a first accommodation space provides a space for the pedal to move in the front-rear direction. By means of the action of two flywheels to provide an acceleration effect, the rotation of the drive gear is to speed up, so that the user can reduce the force exerted to the pedal.

An exercise machine creates a simulated continuous resisted climbing motion. The machine includes a floor- or ground-contacting base frame and two or more substantially vertically oriented uprights, wherein at least one upright is rigidly connected to the base frame. The machine further includes two handles and two foot pedals, each handle and each foot pedal being movably engaged with an upright for linear reciprocating motion along the upright. The handles and foot pedals are interconnected so that they move concurrently. An adjustable resistance mechanism may be operatively connected to the interconnection of the handles and foot pedals to provide adjustable resistance for the simulated continuous climbing motion.

An exercise machine creates a simulated continuous resisted climbing motion. The stair climber also includes an electric brake mechanism operating in generative mode and coupled with the steps and configured to provide a variable resistive force. Also included is a controller that receives an indication of a selected exercise mode from a user that includes a first speed, a second speed, and a difficulty level. The controller also balances a load, in a learning mode, on the steps based a user's weight at the first speed, and controls, in response to the user applying an additional load to the steps via a rail system, the electric brake mechanism to apply the difficulty level of the selected exercise mode and prevent the steps from exceeding the second speed.
