A vehicle control apparatus includes a time-to-collision acquisition unit that acquires time to collision that is a time period until a time of collision of an own vehicle with a front obstacle, an overlap rate acquisition unit that acquires an overlap rate indicating a relative positional relationship between the own vehicle and the front obstacle in a lateral direction perpendicular to a traveling direction of the own vehicle, a determination unit that performs execution determination of automatic braking control of the own vehicle, on the basis of the time to collision and the overlap rate, and that, when the overlap rate is increasing by the front obstacle approaching the own vehicle in the lateral direction, determines start timing of the automatic braking control as earlier timing than when the overlap rate is not increasing, and an automatic controller that executes the automatic braking control at the start timing.

Compressed air brake system for a vehicle and a method for controlling a compressed air brake system of this type

A method for controlling a compressed air brake system of a vehicle includes outputting an analog driver brake pressure via a brake pressure control line during driver braking by operating a brake pedal, a switching device set in a driver braking position to a brake circuit with at least one ABS stop valve device, a brake line, and a wheel brake. The method additionally includes, in the presence of both driver braking and the external brake demand signal, measuring the driver brake pressure and determining a driver brake pressure value. Furthermore, the method includes forming a combined brake pressure value by adding or superimposing the driver brake pressure value and an external brake pressure value contained in the external brake demand signal, and switching the switching device into the functional position and controlling the combined brake pressure value from the system pressure by actuating the ABS stop valve device.

Arrangement and method for mitigating a forward collision between road vehicles
10843687 · 2020-11-24 · ·

Disclosed is an arrangement and a method for mitigating a forward collision between a host vehicle, having sensors for monitoring a road ahead and wheel brakes, and an oncoming vehicle. The sensors are utilized to estimate parameters of an oncoming vehicle. The estimated parameters are utilized to predict a future path of the oncoming vehicle, and host vehicle parameters are utilized to predict a future path of the host vehicle. The predicted future paths are assessed to determine if a forward collision is likely unavoidable assuming full freedom for performing avoidance maneuvers for both vehicles. The wheel brakes are controlled to reduce a relative longitudinal velocity between the vehicles at a predicted collision instant if determined that a forward collision is likely unavoidable at a determined relative longitudinal velocity above a first threshold.
