A wheel speed sensor interface receives an analog signal from a wheel speed sensor and converts the analog signal to a digital wheel speed sensor output signal. A detector circuit is configured to detect a transient occurring within a voltage source powering the wheel speed sensor, and compensate the digital wheel speed sensor output signal as a function of the detection of the transient so that it is an accurate representation of a wheel speed detected by the wheel speed sensor. The detector circuit includes a current mirror coupled to the voltage source, and outputs a compensation current to a current comparator of the wheel speed sensor interface.

A method for controlling a brake system of a vehicle comprises detecting a failure of a sensor for at least one of the vehicle wheels, checking whether a brake control function is being executed at the time of the failure, continuing the brake control function if a brake control function is being executed and deactivating the brake control function when execution of the brake control function has been completed. If no brake control function is being executed at the time of the failure then executing the brake control function if a brake control function is initiated within a defined period of time after the failure, and deactivating the brake control function after execution of the brake control function has been completed and the period of time has expired or if no brake control function has been initiated within the defined period of time.

The unit calculates a target brake pressure for a wheel at which an increase in brake pressure is necessary. The increase in brake pressure takes place in accordance with the wheel signal which is obtained for the wheel and in accordance with the determination as to whether the wheel is affected by a wheel signal failure. The unit further determines a slip threshold for an anti-lock brake control operation applied to the wheel affected by the wheel signal failure.
