The cam indexer includes (i) a cam sprocket having one gear detent corresponding to each of gear engagement position of the selector drum, and one neutral detent corresponding to each neutral position of the selector drum, and (ii) a cam follower that engages with the gear detents and biases the selector drum into either a corresponding gear engagement position or a corresponding neutral position.

An actuator has an elastic member, and a control unit calculates the differential rotation between an engagement member and target engagement members on the basis of the detected rotation speeds of a first rotation shaft and a second rotation shaft, and makes differential rotation coincide with a predetermined differential rotation by adjusting the rotation speed of power sources. After the differential rotation coincides with the predetermined differential rotation, in establishing the engagement, the predetermined differential rotation sets the differential rotation on the basis of a natural frequency generated in conjunction between the actuator and the engagement member by the elastic member.

A control device causes the continuously variable speed change structure to be accelerated to a forward travel side in accordance with an accelerating operation of a speed change operation member in a forward travel direction, and causes the multi-speed speed change structure to be changed from a first power transmission state to a second power transmission state when the rotational speed of the speed change output shaft reaches a switching speed set to exceed a work speed range.

The method for controlling the vehicle includes: receiving, by a planning controller, a trip plan based on an input from a vehicle-operator, wherein the trip plan is indicative of a planned trip; determining, by the planning controller, a current location of the vehicle using a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) of the vehicle; determining, by the planning controller, a geography of the planned trip using map data from a map database; determining, by the planning controller, a target speed profile for the vehicle as a function of the trip plan, the geography of the planned trip, and a predetermined, optimal acceleration range; determining, by an adaptive cruise controller, a torque request as a function of the target speed profile, a predetermined-optimal torque range, and a current speed of the vehicle.

Method and system for controlling a vehicle propulsion system based upon an adjusted clutch torque capacity

A vehicle propulsion system includes a transmission having manually selectable gear ratios, a manually operable clutch for selectively connecting the transmission to an engine for receiving torque from the engine and transmitting that torque through the transmission for propelling the vehicle, a clutch position sensor that generates a clutch position signal and a controller that is programmed to receive the clutch position signal, determine an actual engine output torque, determine an actual clutch torque capacity value based upon the actual engine output torque and the clutch position signal, determine a difference between the actual clutch torque capacity value and a clutch torque capacity from a torque to position table corresponding to the clutch position signal, determine an adjusted clutch torque capacity based upon the determined difference, and control an operation of the engine based upon the adjusted clutch torque capacity.

Methods and systems for adapting clutches of a vehicle transmission

Methods and systems are provided for controlling clutch capacity in a hybrid electric vehicle. In one example, a method includes adjusting values of a transfer function of a clutch of a dual clutch transmission in response to an operating condition of an engine and/or operating condition of an integrated starter/generator coupled to the engine while a vehicle is propelled via an electric machine coupled to the dual clutch transmission, and maintaining a driver demand wheel torque at vehicle wheels via adjusting torque of the electric machine in response to the operating condition of the engine and/or operating condition of the integrated starter generator. In this way the method may apply pressure to one of the clutches where engine speed is independently controlled to maintain positive or negative slip, thus enabling adaptation of positive and negative clutch transfer functions, which may improve driveline operation and shift quality.

Presented are model-based control systems for operating parallel hybrid powertrains, methods for making/using such systems, and motor vehicles with parallel hybrid powertrains and model-based torque and speed control capabilities. A method for controlling operation of a hybrid powertrain includes receiving a command signal for a hybrid powertrain operation associated with a driver input and a current operating mode of the powertrain. A desired output torque for executing the powertrain operation is then determined. The method determines if a speed differential between an engine speed of an engine and a torque converter output speed of a torque converter is less than a calibrated threshold; if so, the method responsively engages a clutch device to operatively connect the engine's output member to the transmission's input member. Engine torque is then coordinated with motor torque such that the sum of the engine and motor torques is approximately equal to the desired output torque.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING A VEHICLE IN A COASTING MODE

A powertrain system for a vehicle is described, and includes an internal combustion engine that is selectively coupled to a driveline. The engine is configured to operate in a coasting mode, wherein the coasting mode includes operating the powertrain system with the engine in an OFF state and decoupled from the driveline. Devices are configured to monitor an output torque request, vehicle speed, and vehicle operating conditions. An executable instruction set monitors the vehicle speed and the output torque request. The engine is controlled to operate in the coasting mode when the output torque request is within the predetermined torque region and the vehicle speed is greater than a minimum speed threshold. The engine is controlled to discontinue operating in the coasting mode in response to the output torque request being outside the torque region of the vehicle speed being less than a minimum speed threshold.
