Methods and systems for improving hybrid vehicle cooling

Systems and methods for improving hybrid vehicle cooling are presented. In one example, an electric pump may supply transmission fluid to a transmission and a driveline integrated starter/generator to cool, operate, and lubricate driveline components. The electric pump may be selectively operated to conserve energy and to supply driveline cooling when driveline cooling may be desirable.

Method of controlling regeneration and boost functions of a hybrid powertrain

A method of controlling a powertrain of a hybrid vehicle includes comparing an operating efficiency of a motor-generator-inverter to an upper MGI efficiency threshold when a boost operating mode is selected. When the operating efficiency of the motor-generator-inverter is equal to or greater than the upper MGI efficiency threshold, the motor-generator-inverter is controlled to operate in the boost operating mode. The operating efficiency of the motor-generator-inverter is compared to a lower MGI efficiency threshold when a regenerative operating mode is selected. When the operating efficiency of the motor-generator-inverter is equal to or greater than the lower MGI efficiency threshold, the motor-generator-inverter is controlled to operate in the regenerative operating mode.

Systems and methods of providing a configurable powertrain in a vehicle are disclosed. The powertrain is capable of operating in a plurality of powertrain configurations and includes one or more reversible generators, a battery system, a motor/generator (M/G), and one or more drive axles. The generators generate and supply electrical power to the battery system, the M/G, an external power source, or a combination thereof. The battery system selectively supplies electrical power to the generators, the M/G, the external power source, or a combination thereof. The one or more generators also selectively supply cooling to the battery system, a cab of the vehicle, a trailer or external enclosure or structure of the vehicle, or a combination thereof. The powertrain configurations of the vehicle include operating the components of the powertrain in various combinations based on demands of the vehicle and/or external power sources or structures.

A method and system for controlling a vehicle includes determining a temperature of a power distribution center and controlling an opening of an active air dam in response to the temperature of the power distribution center.

Method of oil pre-conditioning for an electric powertrain of a vehicle

A method of oil pre-conditioning for an electric powertrain for a vehicle configured to provide electric propulsion of the vehicle, said electric powertrain comprising the first electric motor being linked to the first gear module, a secondary shaft being linked to the second gear module, the second electric motor being linked to the third gear module through a motor shaft, the differential being shared by both electric motors, The electric powertrain is surrounded by an oil. The method includes the steps of selecting an oil pre-conditioning configuration wherein the secondary shaft does not rotate and at least one of the first electric motor or the second electric motor rotates while the other is in driving mode leading to the heating of the oil to reach a threshold temperature and applying the selected oil pre-conditioning configuration.

Vehicle that maintains a temperature of a drive unit

A vehicle including: a first drive unit for driving wheels; a temperature control circuit for the first drive unit; and a control device, in which, when controlling the first drive unit under a first drive mode and executing a temperature increase control, the control device determines, based on a state of the vehicle, whether the drive mode of the first drive unit is changeable to a second drive mode in which an output from a first drive motor of the first drive unit is reduced, on determining that the drive mode is changeable to the second drive mode, the control device changes the drive mode to the second drive mode and continues the temperature increase control, otherwise the control device maintains the drive mode in the first drive mode, and ends the temperature increase control and then executes the normal temperature control.
