Enclosed are embodiments of motion control operations in various traffic scenarios in consideration of the kinematic factor for trajectory planning. In some embodiments, a method includes: determining a danger rating for at least one object identified in an environment, wherein the danger rating represents a perceived risk associated with a respective object; evaluating a set of hierarchical factors with respect to a traffic scenario, wherein a metric is derived for trajectories of the traffic scenario that quantifies passenger ride comfort based on the danger rating and the set of hierarchical factors; determining a motion control operation in the traffic scenario to increase the passenger ride comfort based on the metric; and augmenting a route planner of an autonomous vehicle with motion control operations in different traffic scenarios to increase the passenger ride comfort.

Trajectory generation and optimization using closed-form numerical integration in route-relative coordinates

Techniques are discussed for generating and optimizing a trajectory using closed-form numerical integration in route-relative coordinates. A decision planner component of an autonomous vehicle, for example, can receive or generate a reference trajectory, which may correspond to an ideal route for an autonomous vehicle to traverse through an environment, such as a center of a road segment. Lateral dynamics (e.g., steering angles, curvature values of trajectory segments) and longitudinal dynamics (e.g., velocity and acceleration) can be represented in a single algorithm such that optimizing the reference trajectory (e.g., based on loss functions or costs) can substantially simultaneously optimize the lateral dynamics and longitudinal dynamics in a single convergence operation. In some cases, the trajectory can be used to control the autonomous vehicle to traverse an environment.

Among other things, techniques are described for screening and monitoring the health of a vehicle user including receiving sensor data produced by a sensor at the vehicle, processing the sensor data to determine at least one health condition of the user of the vehicle, and in response to determining the at least one health condition, executing a vehicle function selected from a plurality of vehicle functions based on the at least one health condition.

EMERGENCY VEHICLE DETECTION AND RESPONSE

Techniques for detecting and responding to an emergency vehicle are discussed. A vehicle computing system may determine that an emergency vehicle based on sensor data, such as audio and visual data. In some examples, the vehicle computing system may determine aggregate actions of objects (e.g., other vehicles yielding) proximate the vehicle based on the sensor data. In such examples, a determination that the emergency vehicle is operating may be based on the actions of the objects. The vehicle computing system may, in turn, identify a location to move out of a path of the emergency vehicle (e.g., yield) and may control the vehicle to the location. The vehicle computing system may determine that the emergency vehicle is no longer relevant to the vehicle and may control the vehicle along a route to a destination. Determining to yield and/or returning to a mission may be confirmed by a remote operator.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS TO ASSESS VEHICLE CAPABILITIES

Performance anomalies in autonomous vehicle can be difficult to identify, and the impact of such anomalies on systems within the autonomous vehicle may be difficult to understand. In examples, systems of the autonomous vehicle are modeled as nodes in a probabilistic graphical network. Probabilities of data generated at each of the nodes is determined. The probabilities are used to determine capabilities associated with higher level functions of the autonomous vehicle.

VEHICLE DRIVE ASSIST APPARATUS

A surrounding situation information acquisition device acquires surrounding situation information of a vehicle. A steering angle sensor detects a steering angle and a steering direction of the vehicle. A steering assist controller executes traveling control involving steering assist control based on information output from the surrounding situation information acquisition device and information output from the steering angle sensor. The steering assist controller recognizes, based on the information output from the surrounding situation information acquisition device, an oncoming vehicle in an oncoming lane adjacent to a traveling lane of the vehicle and an avoidance target on a road shoulder side of the traveling lane of the vehicle, estimates an avoidance priority level of the oncoming vehicle and an avoidance priority level of the avoidance target, and sets a new target lane keeping traveling path of the vehicle based on the avoidance priority levels.

LATERAL GAP PLANNING FOR AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES

Aspects of the disclosure provide for controlling an autonomous vehicle. For instance, a trajectory for the autonomous vehicle to traverse in order to follow a route to a destination may be generated. A first error value for a boundary of an object, a second error value for a location of the autonomous vehicle, a third error value for a predicted future location of the object may be received. An uncertainty value for the object may be determined by combining the first error value, the second error value, and the third error value. A lateral gap threshold for the object may be determined based on the uncertainty value. The autonomous vehicle may be controlled in an autonomous driving mode based on the lateral gap threshold for the object.
