A plurality of virtual gear positions are established by an electric continuously variable transmission, and the number of speeds of the virtual gear positions is equal to or larger than the number of speeds of mechanical gear positions of a mechanical stepwise variable transmission. One virtual gear position or two or more virtual gear positions is/are assigned to each mechanical gear position, and the mechanical gear position is shifted in the same timing as shift timing of the virtual gear position. The virtual gear positions assigned to each mechanical gear position when the mechanical gear position is upshifted are different from the virtual gear positions assigned to each mechanical gear position when the mechanical gear position is downshifted. Thus, the amount of heat generated in frictional engagement elements of the mechanical stepwise variable transmission is prevented from being increased.

Disclosed are a vehicle for generating an acceleration profile based on the acceleration cognitive characteristics of the human and a method of controlling the same. The method includes: receiving a manipulation amount of an accelerator pedal and calculating a first torque value, inserting the first torque value to a function that receives force and outputs acceleration feeling, generating a second torque value by inserting an output value of the function into a first filter for stabilizing the output value, generating a target torque value by inputting the second torque value to a second filter for stabilizing the second torque value, and generating a torque command based on the target torque value.
HYBRID VEHICLE OPERATING STRATEGY DURING LOSS OF MOTOR CONTROLLABILITY
A vehicle includes a hybrid powertrain. The hybrid powertrain includes an engine and an electric machine. In response to a loss of controllability of the electric machine, a controller is programmed to operate the powertrain in a limited operating mode. In the limited operating mode, the powertrain is controlled so that a speed of the engine is within a speed range such that the electric machine generates a current to charge a traction battery. In response to a loss of communication with a power inverter that controls the electric machine, the powertrain is controlled so that the speed of the engine is within the speed range and the current flowing to the traction battery is monitored. If the current flow is above a threshold, then the limited operating mode is entered.

When a kickdown switch is turned off, a target rotation speed of an engine is set on the basis of a vehicle speed and a gear and the engine, the first motor, and the second motor are controlled such that the smaller driving force of an upper-limit driving force based on the target rotation speed and a required driving force is output to a drive shaft and the engine rotates at the target rotation speed. On the other hand, when the kickdown switch is turned on, the target rotation speed is set to be higher than that when the kickdown switch is turned off on the basis of the vehicle speed and the gear and the engine, the first motor, and the second motor are controlled such that the required driving force is output to the drive shaft and the engine rotates at the target rotation speed.

An ECU changes driving force characteristics in accordance with a changeover in mode, such that the vehicle driving torque for the same vehicle speed and the same accelerator opening degree becomes larger during a CD mode than during a CS mode. In changing the driving force characteristics in accordance with the changeover in mode, the ECU executes a slow change process such that the vehicle driving torque approaches a value after the changeover in mode from a value before the changeover in mode as time passes. In this slow change process, the speed of change in the vehicle driving torque in the slow change process is more strictly limited when the changeover in mode is made based on host vehicle position information than when the changeover in mode is made in accordance with the operation of a mode switch.
ENGINE STARTING CONTROL SYSTEM FOR HYBRID VEHICLE
An engine starting control system for hybrid vehicles is provided to prevent a temporal drop in drive force when starting an engine. The control system maintains an operating mode of a switching mechanism when starting the engine by the first motor, in a case that the vehicle is propelled in the forward direction by the first motor and that the switching mechanism is in a second mode, or in a case that the vehicle is propelled in the reverse direction by the first motor and that the switching mechanism is in the first mode. Thereafter, the control system increases a rotational speed of the engine to a self-sustaining speed, switches the operating mode of the switching mechanism, and increases torque of the engine.

A control system for a hybrid vehicle, the hybrid vehicle includes an engine, a first motor, a second motor, a differential mechanism, and a clutch. The control system includes an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit is configured to: (a) set an EV mode in which a vehicle travels at least by drive power of the second motor among the first motor and the second motor in a state that the engine stops, (b) prohibit setting of the EV mode in a state that the clutch is fully engaged when a vehicle speed is at least equal to a predetermined first vehicle speed threshold value, and (c) prohibit setting of the EV mode in a state that the clutch is disengaged when the vehicle speed of the vehicle that travels in the EV mode is at most equal to a predetermined second vehicle speed threshold value.

A hybrid vehicle includes an internal combustion engine, an electrical storage device, a rotary electric machine, and a controller. The internal combustion engine includes a variable valve actuating device. The variable valve actuating device is configured to change an operation characteristic of an intake valve. The electrical storage device is configured to be charged. The rotary electric machine is configured to generate driving force for propelling the hybrid vehicle by using electric power that is supplied from the electrical storage device. The controller is configured to cause the hybrid vehicle to travel in a selected one of a charge sustaining mode and a charge depleting mode. The charge sustaining mode is a mode in which a state of charge of the electrical storage device is kept within a predetermined range. The charge depleting mode is a mode in which consumption of the state of charge is given a higher priority as compared to the charge sustaining mode. The controller is configured to change a switching condition for switching from the charge depleting mode to the charge sustaining mode such that a first state of charge is higher than a second state of charge. The first state of charge is an state of charge at which the controller switches from the charge depleting mode to the charge sustaining mode at the time when the operation characteristic of the intake valve is unchangeable to a desired operation characteristic. The second state of charge is an state of charge at which the controller switches from the charge depleting mode to the charge sustaining mode at the time when the operation characteristic of the intake valve is changeable to a desired operation characteristic.

An electronic control unit performs a control process including a step of setting a second learning time shorter than a first learning time when a Charge Sustaining mode is not selected, a step of setting enlarged values as upper and lower limit values of a feedback value, a step of switching an engine stop prohibition flag to an ON state when a learning start condition is satisfied, a step of performing learning control, a step of performing an update process when the set learning time elapses, and a step of turning off the engine stop prohibition flag.
