POLYMER COMPOSITE PHOTONIC CRYSTAL COATINGS
Polymer composite photonic crystal materials are disclosed as coatings which have high reflection (>30%) in a specific range of the electromagnetic spectrum, such as ultraviolet (<400 nm), visible (Vis, 400 nm-700 nm), or near-infrared radiation range (NIR, 700-2000 nm), and relatively low reflection (<20% reflection) in a second, different range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Surprisingly, it was found that through a formulation and additives approach, the optical properties of polymer composite photonic crystal films can be selectively modified from a variety of different coating methods, including spray deposition.

NEAR INFRARED TRANSMITTING COPPER OXIDE NANOPARTICLES
A black IR reflective or transmissive pigment from which LiDAR responsive black coatings can be formed where the pigment displays a Blackness M.sub.y value similar to non-IR reflective carbon black. The CuO particles display small crystallites of less than 18 nm and an (−111)/(111) reflectance intensity ratio of less than 1.2. A method of forming the CuO particles includes precipitation of CuCO3 or CuCO.sub.3/Cu(OH).sub.2 using an alkali carbonate as a precipitant and calcining the precipitate at about 300° C. to about 400° C.
Temperature-sensitive indicator
A temperature-indicator product comprising a visual indicator comprising a thermochromic colour-memory composition and comprising an electron-donating colouring organic compound (A), an electron-accepting colouring organic compound (B) and reaction medium compound (C). The visual indicator comprises a first portion comprising a first thermochromic colour-change composition in its lower temperature state and a second portion comprising a second thermochromic colour-change composition in its higher temperature state. The product is useful as a tamper-evident indicator or as a freeze indicator.
