A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) transmits a first buffer status information message over an uplink shared channel with buffered data and a second buffer status information message over the uplink shared channel with buffered data. The second buffer status information message may have less bits and use a different format than the first buffer status information message. The WTRU may also transmit a scheduling request without buffered data on a condition of not have a scheduling grant. The WTRU may initiate, subsequent to a predetermined number of subframes after transmission of the first buffer status information message, transmission of another first buffer status information message.

Method for receiving ACK/NACK signal in mobile communication system

A method for transmitting information of resources for use in transmission of ACK/NACK signals in a mobile communication system is disclosed. An example method for receiving ACK/NACK signals in a mobile communication system is also disclosed. When resources for transmission of data and resources for transmission of control information of the data are scheduled through virtual unit resources, the method identifies information of resources for receiving an ACK/NACK signal for transmission data mapped to information of at least one of a virtual unit resource allocated to the transmission data and a virtual unit resource allocated to control information of the transmission data, and receives the ACK/NACK signal for the transmission data through the information of resources for receiving the ACK/NACK signal.

Selecting among multiple concurrently active paths through a network

Methods and systems for selecting among multiple concurrently active paths through a network are provided. According to one embodiment, a method is performed by a network interface of a source network device within a loop-free, reverse-path-learning network. The network is divided into multiple virtual local area networks (VLANs). Network traffic destined for a destination network device and specifying an address for the destination or including information from which the address can be derived is received from the source. A set of VLANs that can be used to transport the packet from the source to the destination is determined. Each VLAN in the set of VLANs is associated with a different path through the network from the source to the destination. A particular VLAN from the set of VLANs networks is selected, thereby effectively selecting a particular path from multiple selectable paths between the source and the destination.

System and method for reporting packet characteristics in a network environment

A method is provided in one example and includes receiving a request to initiate a communication flow associated with a subscriber and identifying one or more parameters to be monitored for the communication flow. The method further includes extracting one or more bits from packets associated with the communication flow; the bits are used to determine an operating system associated with the communication flow. A policy decision can be executed for the communication flow based on the operating system associated with the communication flow. In more specific examples, the bits are sent to a next destination in response to a threshold being reached for at least one of the parameters. The parameters can be associated a volume parameter or a time parameter. The policy decision could include blocking traffic associated with the subscriber, initiating billing, redirecting the communication, managing a quality of service level for the communication flow, etc.

A communication system includes: a network configuration memory that stores network configuration information of a first layer in which an area of the first layer whose low level configuration is desired to be concealed is represented by a preset symbol and that also stores network configuration information of a second layer showing the area represented by the preset symbol. The system also includes a network configuration management section that allows a first user to manage a network of the first layer using the network configuration information of the first layer and that also allows a second user to manage a network of the second layer using at least the network configuration information of the second layer.

Load balancing among a cluster of firewall security devices

A method for balancing load among firewall security devices (FSDs) is provided. According to one embodiment, a switching device performs adaptive load balancing among cluster units of an HA cluster of firewall security devices. A load balancing (LB) function implemented by the switching device is configured based on information received from a network administrator. A LB table is maintained that forms associations between hash values output by the LB function and corresponding ports of the switching device to which the cluster units are coupled. Network traffic received by the switching device is directed to appropriate cluster units based on the LB function and the LB table. A traffic load on each of the cluster units is monitored. Responsive to a deviation from a predefined ideal traffic distribution, an attempt is made to improve performance of the HA cluster by dynamically adjusting the LB balancing table to address the deviation.

Method and a media device for pre-buffering media content streamed to the media device from a server system

The present disclosure relates to a method and a media device for pre-buffering media content streamed to the media device from a server system. The media device is connected to a network and has a rechargeable battery. The media device determines, by means of a bandwidth logic, an available network bandwidth and, by means of a charging logic, a charging level of the rechargeable battery. Based on these determinations, i.e. based on the determined available network bandwidth and the determined charging level of the rechargeable battery the media device selects a pre-buffering policy, by means of a pre-buffering logic, and pre-buffers media content, by means of the pre-buffering logic, from the server system in accordance with the selected pre-buffering policy.
