Supporting low latency applications at the edge of wireless communication networks

Various embodiments manage data flow between at least one wireless communication device and at least one application executing at an edge of the wireless communication network. In one embodiment, a first flow regenerator disposed within the network generates a replicated set of data packets. The replicated set of data packets are a copy of a set of data packets being transmitted between an application disposed on a first node at an edge of the network and a wireless communication device. The first flow regenerator sends the replicated set of data packets to a second flow regenerator disposed in the network. The replicated set of data packets are sent to the second flow regenerator through at least a second node disposed between the first flow regenerator and the second flow regenerator. The second node is configured to perform one or more book-keeping operations on the replicated set of data packets.

Fast re-route protection using GRE over MPLS

Techniques are described for providing fast re-route (FRR) node and/or link protection along a primary label switched path (LSP) using generic routing encapsulation (GRE) over multi-protocol label switching (MPLS). An ingress edge router of a primary LSP is configured to encapsulate incoming packets into GRE with a destination address of an egress edge router of the primary LSP, and push a primary label onto the encapsulated packet for forwarding along the primary LSP. Upon a failover to a bypass LSP, a point of local repair (PLR) router swaps the primary label on the encapsulated packet with a bypass label. A merge point (MP) router then receives the encapsulated packet via the bypass LSP, and performs a lookup using the destination address of the egress edge router included on the encapsulated packet in order to determine a primary label for forwarding the encapsulated packet along the primary LSP.

The invention relates to a node for communication between a first network and an second network and coupled to a controller in the second network via a first communication route. The node and controller form a virtualised home gateway platform. The node is arranged to access a second communication route and also to couple to the controller via the second communication route upon connection failure of the first communication route. This reconnects the node to the controller thereby maintaining a route for transmission of data streams and downloads into the home environment but also re-establishes control signalling within the virtualised home gateway platform and therefore also within the home network. A system for performing gateway functions between a first network and an second network, and a method of maintaining connection between a node and a controller, are also described.

RADIOCOMMUNICATION INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A RAILWAY SIGNALLING SYSTEM OF THE CBTC TYPE

This infrastructure includes a network MPLS; first and second groups of access points associated with each section of the track; first and second modems, on the train, communicating with access points of the first and second groups. The network includes pairs of local switches, each associated with a section of the track and including first and second local switches for communication with, respectively, the first and second groups of access points of the associated section, and first and second central switches, the switches being in series with one another and implementing a service for defining paths between each central switch and each local switch so the path between the first central switch and the first local switch of a pair and the path between the second central switch and the second local switch of this pair correspond to separate portions of the ring formed by the network.

Multi-path routing control for an encrypted tunnel

The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for applying unique routing rules to encrypted data packets being transmitted via a tunneling protocol. Because encrypted data packets are unintelligible at intermediary points along a secured link or “tunnel,” a multi-path router located between the tunnel endpoints is typically unable to apply unique routing rules. To enable unique routing, the disclosed method relies on a unique identifier that is associated with the secured link established between an initiator and a receiver (i.e., the tunnel endpoints). The unique identifier is transmitted with one or more encrypted data packets and is used at intermediary points to differentiate the encrypted data packets so that unique routing rules can be applied.

SPLIT-HORIZON PACKET FORWARDING IN A MULTI-HOME PBB-EVPN NETWORK

Techniques are described to provide split-horizon packet forwarding so as to ensure that packets from the customer network that are injected into the provider backbone bridging Ethernet Virtual Private Network (PBB-EVPN) by one of the provider edge (PE) devices of the multi-homed Ethernet segment are not forwarded back toward the customer network by a different PE device connected to the same multi-homed Ethernet segment. For example, a method may comprise receiving a packet via a core-facing interface of a first PE device, determining the Ethernet segment associated with the PE devices by a lookup operation based on keys of the packet; in response to determining the Ethernet segment, supplanting the core-facing interface of the first PE device with a virtual interface associated with the keys, and forwarding the packet to a second CE device without forwarding the received packet back to the Ethernet segment associated with the first PE device.

System and Method for Receiving and Relaying a Paging Message Via a Paging Proxy
20170250958 · 2017-08-31 ·

The present invention provides a system and method for receiving and relaying a paging message via a paging proxy in a wide area wireless network. The system and method include detecting a proxy device for acting as a paging proxy near a present position of the mobile wireless communication device, where the proxy device includes a communication connection with a network paging controller, and is adapted to interact with the mobile wireless communication device separately from a wide area communication connection used by the mobile device to communicate with the wide area wireless network. The mobile wireless communication device is then associated with the proxy device for receiving and relaying an indication of paging messages on behalf of and to the mobile wireless communication device. A wireless receiver of the mobile wireless communication device used by the mobile wireless communication device to communicate with the wide area wireless network via a wide area communication connection is then deactivated. When the indication of a paging message intended for the mobile wireless communication device is to be delivered to the mobile wireless communication device having the deactivated wireless receiver, the wide area wireless network conveys the indication of the paging message via the proxy device, where the proxy device communicates the indication of the paging message via an interrupt based form of communication.

Method of data delivery across a network

The present invention provides a method of preserving packet ordering in a multipath network having a plurality of network elements interconnected by network links wherein for each data packet arriving at an egress port of the multi-path network, a delivery acknowledgement is issued by the egress port and is transmitted across the network following in reverse the path taken by the data packet being acknowledged. The state of each link in the path taken by the data packet being acknowledged is updated by the acknowledgement. The present invention further provides a multi-path network for use in a bridge, switch, router, hub or the like, the multi-path network comprising a plurality of network ports; a plurality of network elements; and a plurality of network links interconnecting the network elements and the network ports for transporting data packets, each network egress port including an acknowledgement mechanism for issuing a delivery acknowledgement in response to receipt of a data packet and each network element being adapted to transmitted a delivery acknowledgment in the opposite direction along the path taken by the data packet being acknowledged and being further adapted to update the state of at least one of the network links to which it is connected in response to receipt of an acknowledgement. The invention further provides an Ethernet bridge or router incorporating such a multi-path network.
