Seamless switching for multihop hybrid networks

Seamless path switching is made possible in a multi-hop network based upon stream marker packets and additional path distinguishing operations. A device receiving out-of-order packets on the same ingress interface is capable of determining a proper order for the incoming packets having different upstream paths. Packets may be reordered at a relay device or a destination device based upon where a path update is initiated. Reordering packets from the various upstream paths may be dependent upon a type of service associated with the packet.

Signaling existence of a network node that is in a reduced-power mode

According to an implementation, a method for signaling that a first network node exists in a network is following entry of the first network node into a reduced power mode includes receiving, in a second network node, an indication that the first network node will enter into the reduced-power mode. The method also includes generating information that signals the existence of the first network node and that the first network node is reachable in the network and communicating the information to the network such that the second network node operates as a proxy advertiser for the first network node following entry of the first network node into the reduced-power mode.

Edge-gateway multipath method and system

In one exemplary aspect, an edge-gateway multipath method includes the step of providing an edge device in a local network communicatively coupled with a cloud-computing service in a cloud-computing network. A set of wide area network (WAN) links connected to the edge device are automatically detected. The WAN links are automatically measured without the need for an external router. The edge device is communicatively coupled with a central configuration point in the cloud-computing network. The method further includes the step of downloading, from the central configuration point, an enterprise-specific configuration data into the edge device. The enterprise-specific configuration data includes the gateway information. The edge device is communicatively coupled with a gateway in the cloud-computing network. The communicatively coupling of the edge device with the gateway includes a multipath (MP) protocol.

Data-plane driven fast protection mechanism for MPLS pseudowire services

In one embodiment, a source transmits one or more data packets to a destination over a primary pseudowire (PW). When a device on the primary PW detects a downstream failure of the primary PW, and in response to receiving one or more data packets from a source from the failed primary PW, the device adds a loopback packet identifier to the one or more received data packets, and returns the one or more data packets with the loopback packet identifier to the source upstream on the primary PW. Accordingly, in response to receiving the data packet returned with a loopback packet identifier from the primary PW (in response to the downstream failure), the source retransmits the one or more data packets to the destination over a backup PW.

A non-transitory computer readable medium storing a program causing a computer to execute a process, the process including: selecting in a case where an error occurs in communication between a communication device and a communication target device, a setting item to be changed in order to handle the occurred error by referring to information in which a type of an error is previously correlated with a setting item to be changed; acquiring a setting value of another communication device regarding the selected setting item; and determining a setting value of the communication device based on the acquired setting value of the other communication device.

END-TO-END NETWORK PATH SELECTION

Presented herein are techniques for application criteria-based path selection in a network. An application controller receives endpoint application criteria that specify end-to-end conditions that at least one network is to satisfy when forwarding the at least one packet flow. The application controller evaluates a plurality of different types of end-to-end network paths to determine whether one or more of the plurality of end-to-end network paths satisfies the endpoint application criteria.

A switching method includes receiving a failure notification through each of two or more paths included in a plurality of paths; by referring to path management information in which a group and a combination of a plurality of predetermined paths are associated with each other for each of a plurality of groups generated by grouping the plurality of paths according to a combination of an initial point and an end point, determining, for each of the plurality of groups, whether a combination of paths through which the failure notification is received matches with the combination of the plurality of predetermined paths; and switching a path included in an object group corresponding to the two or more paths from an active system to a standby system, when it is determined that the combination of the two or more paths matches with the combination of the plurality of predetermined paths.

Technique for determining whether to reestablish fast rerouted primary tunnels based on backup tunnel path quality feedback

In one embodiment, a primary tunnel is established from a head-end node to a destination along a path including one or more protected network elements for which a fast reroute path is available to pass traffic around the one or more network elements in the event of their failure. A first path quality measures path quality prior to failure of the one or more protected network elements. A second path quality measures path quality subsequent to failure of the one or more protected network elements, while the fast reroute path is being used to pass traffic of the primary tunnel. A determination is made whether to reestablish the primary tunnel over a new path that does not include the one or more failed protected network elements, or to continue to utilize the path with the fast reroute path, in response to a difference between the first path quality and the second path quality.

Distributed arbitration of time contention in TSCH networks

In one embodiment, a parent node in a network observes time slot usage of a channel hopping schedule by one or more child nodes of the parent node to communicate with the parent node. The parent node also identifies high priority traffic from a particular child node. The parent node detects time contention for the high priority traffic based on an indication that at least a portion of the traffic has been rerouted by a particular child node to a different parent node. In response to detecting the time contention, the parent node adjusts a communication strategy used by the one or more child nodes.

Peer-to-Peer building automation system without knowledge being required of network topology

An automation system without any of the devices in the system being required to have knowledge of each other or of the topology of the network. The automation system comprises sensor nodes and actor nodes. The sensor nodes transmit information via a wireless network based on changes that are sensed by the sensors, such as a button being pushed or motion being detected. The actor nodes detect the information that is transmitted over the wireless network and control appliance functions based on the information detected. After the sensor and actor nodes are initialized, the sensor nodes transmit packets into the network based on changes that are detected in their environment. Meanwhile, the actor nodes monitor the network for packets that contain information of scenes that are relevant to each node. Based on the information contained in each such packet, the node acts on the information by controlling its appliance function.
