Electrophoretic particles and processes for the production thereof

Polymer shells similar to those described in U.S. Pat. No. 6,822,782 can be formed on pigment particles by (a) physi-sorping a reagent comprising polymerizable groups on to the pigment particles by treating the particle with a reagent having a polymerizable or polymerization-initiating group, such that the reagent will not desorb from the particle surface when the particle is placed in a hydrocarbon medium; or (b) treating pigment particles bearing nucleophilic groups with a reagent having a polymerizable or polymerization-initiating group, and an electrophilic group, thus attaching the polymerizable or polymerization-initiating groups to the particle surface. The zeta potential of the pigment particles can be varied by a process similar to (b) but using a reagent which does not have a polymerizable or polymerization-initiating group.

The present invention provides a method of producing dye-containing thermosetting resin particles, the method including: dispersing seed particles formed from a thermosetting resin in a dispersion medium; and polymerizing a monomer for thermosetting resin synthesis in the thus obtained dispersion in the presence of a dye and an acid catalyst. By the method of producing dye-containing thermosetting resin particles according to the present invention, dye-containing thermosetting resin particles whose particle size variation coefficient is small at, for example, 8% or less, can be produced without performing a post-treatment such as centrifugation. Therefore, when immunological observation is performed by a fluorescent labeling method using fluorescent dye-containing resin particles produced by the method of producing dye-containing thermosetting resin particles according to the present invention, a high bright spot detection accuracy can be attained.

The present invention provides a nanoparticle containing a hydrophobic fluorescent substance accumulated therein and a thermosetting resin as a matrix, which nanoparticle, when used for labeling of a biological substance such as a protein or nucleic acid, has brightness sufficient for allowing pathological diagnosis using a fluorescence image obtained thereby. The present invention is a phosphor integrated dots nanoparticles wherein a thermosetting resin contains a structural unit formed from a raw material containing a hydrophobic substituent, and wherein a fluorescent substance is accumulated in the nanoparticle at least by hydrophobic interaction, preferably further by stacking interaction, with the hydrophobic substituent of the thermosetting resin.

Methods For Manufacturing Azoic Pigments

A method for manufacturing an azoic pigment is disclosed, according to an illustrative embodiment of the present invention. The method includes producing slurry of the azoic pigment. The slurry includes primary aromatic amine (PAA). The method further includes the derivatization of the residual PAA in the slurry, followed by encapsulation of the slurry. The slurry is acidified or basified. Finally, the slurry is further processed, thereby forming PAA migration free azoic pigment. The derivatization and encapsulation additively or synergistically reduce the PAA content thereby inhibiting migration of PAA from the pigment into a substrate onto which the pigment is loaded.

Delivery Particles

The present application relates to encapsulated benefit agents, compositions comprising such encapsulated benefit agents and processes for making and using compositions comprising such encapsulated benefit agents. Such encapsulated benefit agents eliminate or minimize one or more of the drawbacks of current encapsulated benefit agents and thus provide formulators with additional perfume delivery opportunities.
