Information throttle that enforces policies for workplace use of electronic devices

Information throttle that modifies a device's access to applications, features, or information to enforce workplace use policies. May be used with bring your own devices that belong to a user but are also used at work. For example, the system may disable games, media players, or social media when it determines that a device is used at work. A usage context monitor determines the context in which the device is currently used. The monitor may determine that a device is used for work when the time matches working hours, the device location matches a work site location, or the network connected to a device matches a workplace network. In addition to blocking access to inappropriate features, the information throttle may allow access to sensitive information only when the device is at work. Access may also depend on factors such as user credentials and the identity and configuration of the device.

System, method, and computer program for monitoring and allocating a quota for a user session associated with a service corresponding to a communication service provider (CSP)
10044879 · 2018-08-07 · ·

A system, method, and computer program product are provided for monitoring and allocating a quota for a user session associated with a service corresponding to a communication service provider (CSP). In operation, at least one user session associated with at least one user is identified for allocation of quota information (e.g. information associated with quota size, timeout, etc.) for use of a service associated with a communication service provider. The allocation of the quota information is based on an available balance for use by the at least one user. Further, at least one consumption report of previous quotas associated with the at least one user session is evaluated to identify intervals with high correlation of used service units for consecutive quotas. Additionally, a dynamic quota to allocate to the at least one user session is determined for at least one time period based on the identified intervals with high correlation of used service units for consecutive quotas. The dynamic quota includes at least one calculated quota for at least one specific future time interval based on actual past service usage by the at least one user session for at least one specific past time interval. Moreover, the dynamic quota is allocated to the at least one user session for use of the service associated with the communication service provider.

A method and system are disclosed for sending notifications asynchronously over a telephony network. The method and system include receiving a request over a first telephony connection from a first communication device associated with a first user identifying a second communication device associated with a second user, sending one or more response communications over the first telephony connection to the first communication device associated with the first user, disconnecting the first telephony connection with the first communication device of the first user, and sending a notification over a second telephony connection to the second communication device associated with the second user, the notification including information sufficient to allow the second user to identify the first user or the first communication device associated with the first user.

Apparatus and Methods for Audio and/or Video Communication

An improved apparatus for audio and/or video communication includes first input means for calling another apparatus for audio and/or video communication, and second input means for terminating a call. The apparatus is configured to assign a first functionality to the second input means and a second functionality different from the first functionality to the second input means. Activation of the first and second functionality is dependent upon a status of the audio and/or video communication.

NETWORK-BASED PER-APPLICATION DATA USAGE LIMITATIONS
20180183940 · 2018-06-28 ·

Servers, computer-readable media, and methods are disclosed for halting forwarding of traffic of an application exceeding a per-application data usage limitation. For example, a processor deployed in a telecommunication network may detect traffic between a third-party device and an endpoint device, associate the traffic with an application of a plurality of applications running on the endpoint device, determine, based upon a volume of the traffic, that a per-application data usage limitation for the application is exceeded, and halt forwarding of the traffic when the per-application data usage limitation for the application is exceeded.

Portable data for mobile devices

Network devices receive configuration settings for a portable data account with a service provider. The portable data account provides for mobile data over a broadband cellular network. The network devices receive, via a mobile device, user credentials, for a user, to activate a portable data service for the mobile device. The network devices determine that the user credentials correspond to the portable data account, the portable data account being different than a default account associated with the mobile device. The network devices map a temporary mobile directory number (MDN), which is associated with the portable data account, to a unique identifier for the mobile device, and enforce the configuration settings for a portable data session, associated with the temporary MDN, for the portable data account. The network devices log mobile data, used by the mobile device, for the portable data session and create a billing record for the portable data session, the billing record being based on the logging and associated with the portable data account.

Allocating charges for communications services

A process and apparatus to facilitate communication between callers and callees in a system comprising a plurality of nodes with which callers and callees are associated is disclosed. In response to initiation of a call by a calling subscriber, a caller identifier and a callee identifier are received. Call classification criteria associated with the caller identifier are used to classify the call as a public network call or a private network call. A routing message identifying an address, on the private network, associated with the callee is produced when the call is classified as a private network call and a routing message identifying a gateway to the public network is produced when the call is classified as a public network call.

Wireless access point having metering capability and metering display

The disclosure provides a system and method for metering on a prepaid wireless access point the amount of data transferred between a wireless device and the Internet and inhibiting further data transmission when the amount of prepaid data available reaches or drops below a pre-determined threshold. Specifically, the wireless access point includes a metering client to track one of data usage or an amount of prepaid data available. When the metering client indicates that the amount of data available has dropped below a pre-determined threshold, the wireless access point inhibits further data transmission.

System, process, and device for multiple network usage tracking

A system for multiple network usage tracking, the system having a policy management platform having one or more processors able to receive and to calculate account usage data associated with an account profile, the policy management platform arranged externally from a network of at least one wireless carrier.

Packet data connectivity control with volume charged service limitation

A node of a wireless communication network (150; 160; 170; 210; 220; 230; 240) receives an indication from a user equipment (10). The indication indicates that a limitation of volume charged packet data services is required for the user equipment (10). Depending on the received indication, the node (150; 160; 170; 210; 220; 230; 240) prevents transmission of packet data associated with the volume charged packet data services and allows transmission of packet data associated with one or more other packet data services.
