Preserved addressing for replaceable resources

A method for preserving a media access control (MAC) address of a virtual server is provided. The method includes assigning a physical computing resource to a virtual server, assigning a physical storage memory resource to the virtual server, and assigning a physical network resource to the virtual server. The method includes assigning a virtual MAC address to the virtual server, the virtual MAC address to remain with the virtual server despite reassignment of one or more of the physical computing resource, the physical storage memory resource or the physical network resource, wherein at least one method operation is performed by a processor. A computing and storage system is also provided.

Apparatus and methods for proxy address resolution protocol (ARP) service for multi-link operation

Embodiments of the present invention are drawn to electronic systems capable of transmitting a group addressed frame that identifies an MLD according to an MLD MAC address. The group addressed frame can include an ARP request, for example, and can be transmitted by an AP MLD responsive to an individually addressed frame transmitted by a non-AP STA MLD associated with the AP MLD. The AP MLD can provide a proxy ARP service for associated non-AP STA MLDs.

Virtual machine server-side compute reconfiguration

The disclosed technology is generally directed to virtual machines. In one example of the technology, a first virtual machine executing on a first virtual machine host is reconfigured without rebooting the first virtual machine. The reconfiguring includes controlling the following actions. At least one compute artifact of a plurality of compute artifacts is associated with a first user that is associated with the first virtual machine. At least one compute artifact of the plurality of compute artifacts is modified. A configuration is published to the first virtual machine host.

Interface-based ACLS in a layer-2 network

Systems and methods of interface-based ACLs in a virtual Layer-2 network. The method can include sending a packet from source compute instance in a virtual network to a destination compute instance via a destination virtual network interface card (destination VNIC) within a first virtual layer 2 network and evaluating an access control list (ACL) for the packet with a source virtual network interface card (source VNIC). ACL information relevant to the packet can be embedded in the packet. The VSRS can receive the packet and can identify the destination VNIC within the first virtual layer 2 network for delivery of the packet based on information received with the packet and mapping information contained within a mapping table. The VSRS can access ACL information from the packet and can apply the ACL information to the packet.

Server and updating method for MAC address

A server and an updating method for a MAC address are provided in the present application. The server includes: a network chipset having a preset first MAC address; a first non-volatile memory storing the first MAC address of the network chipset; a second non-volatile memory storing a first BIOS code data; a central processing unit coupled to the network chipset and the second non-volatile memory; and a baseboard management controller coupled to the central processing unit, the first non-volatile memory, and the second non-volatile memory. The baseboard management controller reads the first non-volatile memory to obtain the first MAC address and stores a second BIOS code data including the first MAC address to the second non-volatile memory, causing the first BIOS code data to be overwritten by the second BIOS code data.

Device address rotation management protocol for a wireless local area network

Techniques herein facilitate a device address rotation management protocol that may be implemented for a wireless local area network (WLAN), which can be used to influence when wireless client devices or stations may rotate their Media Access Control (MAC) addresses, how to perform such rotations, and/or the like. In one example, a method may include providing, by an access point (AP), a first communication indicating that the AP supports a MAC address rotation management protocol; obtaining, by the AP, a second communication from a wireless station (STA) indicating that the STA intends to perform a MAC address rotation; and transmitting, by the AP, a third communication to influence the MAC address rotation of the STA, the third communication comprising a rotation status indicator and timing information.

Host routing with virtual machine mobility

A method for supporting virtual machine (VM) mobility between network devices connected to a network includes: selecting a first type of route for interconnecting VMs that are connected to the network devices; and adding a feature of a second type of route to the first type of route to enable the network devices to execute proxy address resolution protocol (ARP) for transmitting network traffic between the VMs without requiring each of the network devices to store a physical address of each of the VMs in respective ones of a network address table.

Telecommunications network

This invention provides a method of operating a wireless local area network, the wireless local area network including a user device, a wireless access point and a wireless repeater, wherein the wireless repeater is configured to virtualise a Media Access Control, MAC, address of the user device when the user device is connected to the wireless repeater by changing the Organisationally Unique Identifier, OUI, of the MAC address, the method comprising the steps of: obtaining data including a plurality of records, wherein each record of the plurality of records relates to the user device and includes a MAC address and a device label of the user device, wherein at least one record of the plurality of records includes a MAC address that has been virtualised by the wireless repeater; processing each record of the plurality of records by: determining that the MAC address of the processed record is a local MAC address, and, if so, identifying another record of the plurality of records that is uniquely associated with the user device based on the MAC address of the processed record by determining a Network Interface Controller, NIC, value of the MAC address of the processed record, determining that the determined NIC value is uniquely associated with a device label in the plurality of records, and identifying another record of the plurality of records having the associated device label, and assigning a unique identifier to the processed record based on the MAC address of the identified other record of the plurality of records; analysing the plurality of records having the unique device identifier; and causing a reconfiguration in the wireless local area network based on the analysis.

Example methods and systems for media access control (MAC) address assignment for virtual network interface cards (VNICs) are described. One example may involve a first computer system may determining a first MAC address portion that is uniquely associated with the first computer system. A first VNIC may be assigned with a first MAC address that includes (a) the first MAC address portion and (b) a third MAC address portion that is uniquely associated with the first VNIC on the first computer system. A second VNIC may be assigned with a second MAC address that includes (a) the first MAC address portion and (b) a fourth MAC address portion that is uniquely associated with the second VNIC on the first computer system.
