RAIL VEHICLE UNDERFRAME INSPECTION DEVICE AND METHOD
20190260972 · 2019-08-22 ·

A method for inspecting the underframe of a railway vehicle by an inspection device that includes a processing block and a motor system, the processing block commanding and controlling the motor system which moves the inspection device until it is positioned at least at one destination point, the method including: given a list of coordinates of points of interest of the underframe expressed in a reference frame having as origin a reference point, moving the inspection device up to a predetermined point whose position relative to the reference point is known, recording the location of the reference point as a function of the position, and determining at least one command to be sent to the motor system in order to position the inspection device at a point of interest from the list based on the coordinates of the point of interest and the location of the reference point.

AUTONOMOUS SCOUTING RAIL VEHICLE
20190256113 · 2019-08-22 ·

Various embodiments of an autonomous rail vehicle that can travel ahead of a locomotive at a distance proportional to the locomotive's stopping capability are disclosed. The rail vehicle may scan its surroundings, gauges track conditions, and communicates with locomotive operators of the scanned results in real-time to timely enable activation of the locomotive's emergency brakes in case of detection of off-normal track conditions. The rail vehicle may paired with the locomotive and provides eyes to locomotive operators so that they can have information on tracks viability well ahead of the locomotive.

RAILWAY TRACK MAINTENANCE TROLLEY
20190211511 · 2019-07-11 ·

A railway track trolley includes a pair of carriages and a workhead mounted to at least one of the pair of carriages. The carriage is adapted to locate on one of a pair of railway track whereas the other carriage locates on the other railway track. The carriages are interconnected via a coupling assembly to permit independent sliding of the carriages relative to one another. In operation, at least one of the carriages is moved along the corresponding railway track wherein its associated workhead is adapted to implement work at that railway track.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR INSPECTING A RAIL
20190161095 · 2019-05-30 ·

A system and method for inspecting a rail is provided. The system includes an ultrasonic transducer positioned to emit an ultrasonic beam onto the rail and receive a refraction beam, the ultrasonic transducer being movable between a first position and a second position. A sensor is operable to measure an angle of a carriage, the carriage being positioned on the rail. A controller is operably coupled to the sensor, the controller having a processor that is responsive to executable computer instructions when executed on the processor to cause the ultrasonic transducer to move to receive refraction beam in response to the measured angle indicating a rail radius of less than a predetermined first threshold.

Rail vehicle with human and/or electric power

A railway vehicle includes two axles with wheels at ends thereof, and a frame rotatably supporting the axles. A seat is carried on the frame adjacent to pedals which are coupled to at least one of the wheels, typically through one of the axles. A battery and electric motor are configured to also supply power. The electric motor is adjustable to deliver controllable amounts of electric power to drive the wheels, separate from or in addition to pedal power delivered to the wheels. A trailer accessory can be towed on the rails by the vehicle. A turntable is provided with rail segments thereon, rotatable relative to a base, and with ramps on at least one end of each rail segment alignable with left and right rails of the railway. Vehicles can roll up the ramps onto the rail segments and then pivot 180? for operation in a reverse direction.
