An improved bulkhead and partition system in which at least two panels are independently attached to mounting members such that each panel can be moved independently. In a preferred embodiment, two bulkheads or panels are slidably attached to separate pairs of ceiling-mounted rails in a refrigerated trailer such that each bulkhead or panel can be independently slid toward the front of a trailer or toward the rear of a trailer to define, in cooperation with a removable center partition wall, a plurality of different cargo areas to be maintained at different temperatures. Alternatively, two bulkheads or panels may advantageously operate without a partition wall such that the panels may be placed side-by-side and fastened together to make a full-width bulkhead.

Methods of increasing total volume capacity of a railroad hopper car having a car body with two or more hoppers are shown and disclosed. In one embodiment, the method includes severing the car body of the railroad hopper car along a vertical plane to form a first portion and a second portion of the railroad hopper car. The method additionally includes separating the first portion from the second portion to define a space therebetween. The method further includes installing, in the space, various components to define one or more additional separate hoppers of the car body.

A container is in communication with a sanding system for housing material used when the sanding system is in operation, wherein the container is configured to be positioned in the interior space formed by the first and second shell elements of the windscreen.

A rail vehicle for transporting passengers includes at least one car body, a passenger compartment situated in the car body, an underfloor region, an inner ceiling region, and a plurality of device containers for receiving vehicle components. The passenger compartment includes a first end wall region and a second end wall region which is situated opposite the first end wall region. In order to enable a great configuration freedom for the passenger compartment, it is provided that each device container of the rail vehicle is disposed in one of the above-mentioned regions.

Car bodies for a covered hopper railroad freight car are shown and disclosed. The car bodies include one or more bulkheads extending transversely between opposite sides separating two or more hoppers from each other. Each of the bulkheads includes a plurality of spaced corrugations each having a trough surface disposed between opposed first and second crest surfaces. The car bodies further include a partial closure plate attached to one or more corrugations. Each of the partial closure plates includes a base portion and one or more side portions attached to, or formed with, the base portion, a shape that corresponds to the shape of the corresponding corrugation such that a surface of the base portion is parallel with each of the first and second crest surfaces and the one or more side portions are attached to the trough surface, and a width less than a width of the corresponding corrugation.
