Method for addition of fire suppression additive to base foam solutions

A method of proportioning a finished foam at or near a hazard comprising proportioning and delivering a first finished foam to the hazard, determining if the first finished foam extinguishes or suppresses the hazard, if not, selecting an amount of a fluorinated additive, and proportioning a foam solution including the selected amount of the fluorinated additive to form a fluorinated finished foam. A foam injection system is also disclosed.

ENVIRONMENTALLY-CLEAN AQUEOUS-BASED FIRE EXTINGUISHING BIOCHEMICAL LIQUID CONCENTRATES FOR MIXING WITH PROPORTIONED QUANTITIES OF WATER TO PRODUCE FIRE EXTINGUISHING WATER STREAMS
20240252870 · 2024-08-01 · ·

An environmentally-clean aqueous-based fire extinguishing biochemical liquid concentrate to be mixed with a proportioned quantity of water, to produce a fire extinguishing water stream that produces good immediate extinguishing effects when applied to extinguish a burning or smoldering fire, and good long-term fire inhibiting effects when being proactively applied to protect combustible surfaces against the threat of fire. The environmentally-clean aqueous-based fire extinguishing biochemical liquid concentrate includes: a dispersing agent realized in the form of a quantity of water, for dispersing potassium ions dissolved in water; a fire inhibiting agent in the form of at least one alkali metal salt of a nonpolymeric saturated carboxylic acid, specifically potassium citrate, for providing potassium ions dispersed in the quantity of water when the potassium citrate is dissolved in the quantity of water; and a dispersing agent in the form of triethyl citrate, an ester of citric acid, for dispersing the potassium ions in the quantity of water, and lowering the surface tension of the liquid solution formed when the potassium citrate is dissolved in the quantity of water, forming of a fire extinguishing liquid solution, for mixing with a proportioned amount of water, to produce a fire extinguishing water stream having good immediate extinguishing effects when applied to extinguish a burning or smoldering fire, and good long-term fire inhibiting effects when applied proactively to protect combustible surfaces against the threat of fire ignition and flame spread of an incident fire.

Poly-perfluoroalkyl substituted polyethyleneimine foam stabilizers and film formers
10173089 · 2019-01-08 · ·

Poly-perfluoroalkyl substituted polyethyleneimine compositions are provided that act as foam stabilizers and film formers when used in fire-fighting foam concentrates. The polyethylene compositions are soluble in water, but have only low solubility in polar solvents. When aqueous film forming foam generated from these concentrates is applied to burning polar solvent the polyethyleneimine compositions precipitate at the polar solvent/foam interface and inhibit the collapse and destruction of the foam.

LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL (PEG) IN FLUORINE CONTAINING FIRE FIGHTING FOAM CONCENTRATES
20180361185 · 2018-12-20 ·

It has been discovered that low molecular weight poly(ethyleneglycol) (PEG) can be used in place of diethylene glycol monobutyl ether (DGME) in fire foam concentrates without compromising the desirable properties provided by DGME. Surprisingly it has been found that lower molecular weight PEG with a weight average molecular weight Mw of 400 or less provides comparable performance to DGME with considerably lower toxicity. Use of this PEG permits preparation of fire foam concentrates that exclude DGME completely and that are less toxic than conventional DGME-containing concentrates.
