The bio-based content of the PFAS-free fire foam is preferably 80% by weight or greater. There is also disclosed a process to produce the PFAS-free fire foam concentrate composition, and the application of the fire foam concentrate onto a Class A fire or Class B fire.

A firefighting composition for use in onboard firefighting systems of heavy industrial equipment, such as heavy vehicles and other types of heavy equipment used in construction, forestry, mining, and other similar industries, includes aqueous liquids that include (a) a sodium and/or potassium salt of an organic acid; (b) one or more of an alkylpolyglycoside surfactant, an alkyl sulfate anionic surfactant, an alkyliminodialkylcarboxylate surfactant and a zwitterionic surfactant; (c) an acetylenic diol derivative surfactant and/or a siloxane-based surfactant; and (d) alkylene glycol and/or glycerol.

Disclosed is a mixture comprising the compound trans-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluoro-2-butene and 1,1-difluoroethane (R-152a). Also disclosed are methods of using and products of using the above compositions as blowing agents, solvents, heat transfer compositions, aerosol propellant compositions, fire extinguishing and suppressant compositions.

Newtonian foam superconcentrate

The invention provides an aqueous foaming Newtonian concentrate, an expanded foam composition and a process of forming a foam composition concentrate. The aqueous foaming concentrate includes a carbonized saccharide mixture, a surfactant, water and optionally further agents including cross-linking agents, thickeners, solvents, stabilizers, buffers, corrosion inhibitors and preservatives. Foaming concentrates of the present invention are free of fluorine and persistent organic pollutants and particularly suited for use in fire prevention, suppression and extinguishment, vapor suppression and wetting of surfaces at concentrations less than 1.3% by weight.

Perfluoroalkyl functionalized polyacrylamide for alcohol resistant-aqueous film-forming foam (AR-AFFF) formulation

New high molecular weight fluoropolymers (fluoropolymer surfactants) are provided that are useful in compositions for use as fire extinguishing concentrates. The fluoropolymers contain C.sub.4-C.sub.6 perfluoroalkyl groups, and substantially lack perfluoroalkyl groups containing more than 6 fluorine-substituted carbon atoms.

Novel fluorosurfactants are provided that contain perfluoroalkyl groups no longer than perfluorohexyl (C.sub.6). The surfactants are useful in the preparation of aqueous film forming foams (AFFF) and alcohol-resistant film-forming foams (AR-AFFF) for firefighting. Unexpectedly, these compounds have activity in AFFF and AR-AFFF applications that is comparable and even superior to conventional surfactants that contain perfluoroalkyl groups that are perfluorooctyl (C.sub.8) and longer. Also provided are methods of making the novel surfactants, as well as foam concentrates, methods of making foam and methods of fighting fires using foam containing the novel surfactants.

A fire suppression composition and method of encapsulation, thermal runaway prevention is provided. The fire suppression composition includes exfoliated vermiculite mixed with a liquid propellant, wherein the composition is chemical free, non-toxic, and biodegradable. Performance additives may be optionally added to improve the performance of the fire suppression composition. The fire suppression composition is intended for a variety of uses, and fire fighting systems. Although it may be used to fight a variety of fires, it is particularly useful for lithium ion battery fires. The exfoliated vermiculite is configured to encapsulate the object or substrate on fire, preventing thermal runaway and escalating fire situations.

FIRE-FIGHTING FOAM COMPOSITION

An aqueous fluorine-free, fire-fighting composition including monosaccharide sugar and/or sugar alcohol, aliphatic anionic surfactant, zwitterionic surfactant, water-miscible organic solvent, and optionally alkanolamine, is provided. The fire-fighting composition commonly does not contain any amine oxide surfactant, nonionic surfactant, or polysaccharide thickener.
