SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MAINTAINING ORGAN PRESSURE

Systems and methods herein generally relate to prolonging viability of bodily tissue, especially an organ, by adjusting pressure as needed to maintain a constant pressure within the organ even during external pressure fluctuations due, for example, to transportation of the organ in an airplane. The systems and methods herein can include an electronic pump that pumps gas into an organ and a mechanical pressure regulator to release gas based on organ pressure.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MEASURING OXYGEN CONCENTRATION FOR LUNG PRESERVATION

A system and method for maintaining an oxygen concentration of a biological sample. The oxygen concentration can be maintained by measuring the oxygen concentration within the biological sample and adjusting a rate of an oxygen supplier in response to this measurement. For example, when the oxygen concentration is below a threshold, oxygen can be delivered to the biological sample at a higher rate.

METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR CYCLICALLY INFLATING AND DEFLATING A LUNG EX-VIVO

The systems and methods relate to cyclically inflating and deflating a lung. The lung can be stored and transported while pumping a gas into the lung and removing another gas from the lung. The cyclical inflation and deflation of the lung can be performed at a rate enhanced or optimized for lung performance.

CAPILLARY ASSISTED VITRIFICATION PROCESSES AND DEVICES
20170135336 · 2017-05-18 ·

Disclosed are devices and methods for non-cryogenic vitrification of biological materials that include the steps of providing one or more capillary channels of which a first opening is operably in contact with a moisture containing vitrification mixture made of a biological material and a vitrification agent. The capillary absorbs and transports the moisture to the second opening through capillary action, and the moisture is subsequently evaporated into a surrounding low humidity atmosphere until the vitrification mixture enters into a vitrified state.

MAGNETITE-BASED HETEROGENEOUS ICE-CRYSTAL NUCLEATION

Ice nucleation and supercooling are controlled by the presence of magnetite particles. Magnetite decreases supercooling and promotes ice nucleation. Therefore, freezing of liquid solutions occurs at higher temperature compared to supercooled solutions. Applying a magnetic field allows control of supercooling and ice nucleation.

Novel Methods for Freeze-drying and Rehydrating Biologics

The present invention relates generally to the fields of immunology and vaccine technology. More specifically, the present invention relates to methods for freeze-drying biological preparations, including peptides, antigens, antibodies, and especially, cells. Importantly, the disclosed methods preserve the viability, infectivity and immunogenicity of cells from the Apicomplexa phylum, the Sarcocystidae family, and in particular, cells from the Toxoplasma genus.

METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS FOR VEIN HARVEST AND AUTOGRAFTING

The leading cause of graft failure is the subsequent development of intimal hyperplasia, which represents a response to injury that is thought to involve smooth muscle proliferation, migration, phenotypic modulation, and extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition. Surgical techniques typically employed for vein harveststretching the vein, placing the vein in low pH, solutions, and the use of toxic surgical skin markersare shown here to cause injury. The invention therefore provides for non-toxic surgical markers than also protect against stretch-induced loss of functional viability, along with other additives. Devices and compositions for reducing physical stress or protecting from the effects flowing therefrom, also are provided.

Method for treating blood, blood products and organs

The invention relates to the treatment of blood, blood products and organs for the removal and/or detoxification of amyloid-beta oligomers.

System for scale-down the processes of freezing and thawing aqueous solutions of thermo-sensitive pharmaceuticals

This disclosure relates to scale-down systems for freezing and thawing aqueous liquid mixtures of thermo sensitive substances. In at least one aspect, the system can comprise a first container that has a head-space and a liquid-space, with a substantially constant average transversal cross-section area in the liquid-space that does not change substantially with height. The first container holds a volume of liquid for a height of liquid, has a lateral active heat transfer area having an insulated lateral area ALIM, and has an equivalent radius sized to reproduce the equivalent radius of a second container. The first container further has a lateral heat transfer area in contact with the liquid-space. The first container is smaller than the second container, and the insulated lateral area is equal to or greater than the lateral active heat transfer area.

SYSTEMS, DEVICES, AND METHODS FOR PRESERVING AN ORGAN FOR TRANSPLANTATION

A method of storing a donor organ prior to implantation into an organ recipient includes bagging a donor organ that has been removed from an organ donor by placing the donor organ into at least one bag and sealing the at least one bag without including any ice in any of the at least one bag within which the donor organ is bagged; placing the bagged donor organ into a portable storage container configured to maintain the donor organ at a temperature of at least 8 degrees Celsius (C) during storage; and storing the donor organ in the portable storage container at the temperature of at least 8 degrees C. prior to transplanting the donor organ into the organ recipient.
