Electroplating wafers having a pattern induced non-uniformity

An electroplating apparatus has a vessel for holding electrolyte. A head has a rotor including a contact ring for holding a wafer having a notch. The contact ring includes a perimeter voltage ring having perimeter contact fingers for contacting the wafer around the perimeter of the wafer, except at the notch. The contact ring also has a notch contact segment having one or more notch contact fingers for contacting the wafer at the notch. The perimeter voltage ring is insulated from the notch contact segment. A negative voltage source is connected to the perimeter voltage ring, and a positive voltage source connected to the notch contact segment. The positive voltage applied at the notch reduces the current crowding effect at the notch. The wafer is plated with a film having more uniform thickness.

Multipurpose electrolytic device (EMPD) for forced or spontaneous electrolytic processes, which incorporates selective and unidirectional ion exchange membranes in order to separate between two or more compartments and allow electrical conductivity therebetween, with independent electrolytes for controlled electrolytic ion transformation, regardless of the chemical composition of the electrolyte containing the element of interest, with high faradaic efficiency and high energy performance. The invention also relates to a method. The device can be used for processes such as metal electrowinning (EW), metal electrorefining, electrooxidation (EOXI) and electroreduction (ERED) of ionic species. The device uses two independent, energetically suitable electrolytes, which allow controlled electrolytic ion transformation, with high faradaic efficiency and high energy performance, unlike current forced electrolysis methods, which operate with a common electrolyte. The device can be used in any aqueous medium, for example an acid environment, such as sulphuric, hydrochloric or other acid, a caustic-soda-based alkaline, or ammonium, thiocyanate or thiosulfate salts, with or without the presence of organic reactants.

ELECTROLYTIC CELL INCLUDING ELASTIC MEMBER

An electrolytic cell that prevents, or at least minimizes, damage to a membrane and reduces electrolytic voltage may include an elastic member attached to an electrolytic partition wall within an anode chamber and/or a cathode chamber. The elastic member comprises a spring retaining part and a bonding part that is bonded to the electrolytic partition wall, parallel first support parts extending from the bonding part away from the electrolytic partition wall, a second support part connecting the first support parts, and two parallel spring rows. Each spring row may include first flat spring-like bodies, which originate from the first support part and extend toward the opposite direction of the electrolytic partition wall, and second flat spring-like bodies, which originate from the second support part and extend toward the opposite direction of the electrolytic partition wall.

Elastic cushion material and ion exchange membrane electrolytic cell utilizing same

Provided are an elastic cushion member and an ion exchange membrane electrolyzer using the same, which elastic cushion member can be installed even in an ion exchange membrane electrolyzer having such a small gap between an electrode and an electrode current collecting plate that a conventional elastic cushion member cannot be arranged therein. An elastic cushion member (10) has a pair of corrosion-resistant metal thin plates (11) arranged at a distance in parallel fashion and a fixing member (12) which fixes the pair of corrosion-resistant metal thin plates (11) and comprises a metal elastic body (13) wound between the pair of corrosion-resistant metal thin plates (11). The fixing member (12) is attached to the pair of corrosion-resistant metal thin plates (11) in a manner that enables detachment of the fixing member therefrom. The metal elastic body (13) is preferred to be a metal coil body. It is also preferable that each of the corrosion-resistant metal thin plates (11) is provided with a slippage prevention means.
