Friction End-of-Car Cushioning Assembly
An assembly that includes a housing with a chamber formed within a bore of the housing. The assembly further includes a center shaft disposed at least partially within the bore of the housing. The chamber includes a backing wedge, a sliding wedge, and a load spring. The sliding wedge is positioned to apply a force onto an angled contact surface of the backing wedge. The sliding wedge is also positioned to apply a frictional force to a rod portion of the center shaft. The load spring is compressed between a contact surface of the chamber and a contact surface of the sliding wedge. The load spring is positioned to apply a compressive force onto the contact surface of sliding wedge toward the angled contact surface of the backing wedge.

RAIL VEHICLE, IN PARTICULAR A LOCOMOTIVE
A rail vehicle, in particular a locomotive, includes a chassis, a central buffer coupling, a coupling shaft which is hinged to the chassis and carries a coupling head, and a coupling support which has a spring-mounted transverse beam for supporting the coupling shaft. The coupling support has two retaining sheets which are secured to the chassis, and the transverse beam has two guide grooves which run in the spring direction. Each of the retaining sheets engages into a respective one of the guide grooves in a form-locking manner such that the transverse beam is guided in a movable manner in the spring direction and transversely thereto, and each retaining sheet has a predetermined breaking point. In this way, the coupling support is secured to the chassis in a simple manner.

Energy dissipation device
An energy dissipation device is shown in connection with its implementation in train couplers. The energy dissipation device comprises axially compressible, irreversibly deforming steel elements arranged in a housing and axially pre-tensioned between a compression means and a counter-pressure means. In case of an impact, the compression means is moving in sliding contact with the inside wall of the housing to provide axial compression of the energy absorbing elements while preserving the integrity of the housing.
Yoke-mounted coupler support
A yoke for a railway car is provided with a coupler support protruding from a top wall of the yoke into an interior space in the yoke to contact the coupler shank when the coupler head is deflected downward to prevent the coupler from drooping after prolonged use.
