Method and apparatus for generalized control of devices
Tools and techniques are described to attach a device to a controller, whereby the controller analyzes the device inputs, looks up information about the device in a database, and then determines which inputs on the device match the defined device inputs. It then may translate information received from the device into an intermediate language. It may also use the information received from the device, the location of the device, and information about the device to create a digital twin of the device.
Method for estimating the operating conditions of a switching apparatus
Described herein is a method for determining a presence of anomalous conditions in a switching apparatus installed in an electric line of an electric power distribution grid. The method includes a sequence of steps for adjusting a lumped-parameter model describing, for each electric phase, the behavior of the switching apparatus during the opening maneuvers of the switching apparatus. Simulation values provided by the lumped-parameter model are used for calculating estimation values indicative of the amounts of arc energy released by the breaking components of the switching apparatus during the opening maneuvers of the switching apparatus.
Real-time update of power system models for dynamic security assessment
Provided is a system and method for updating dynamic power system models during each DSA analysis cycle. In one example, the method may include iteratively executing a dynamic security analysis (DSA) on a power grid based on a simulation of a dynamic power system model, receiving measurements from one or more sensors on the power grid, modifying one or more parameters of the dynamic power system model used in a previous iteration of the DSA based on the received measurements, simulating the modified dynamic power system model, determining a security value of the power grid during a current iteration of the DSA based on the simulated modified dynamic power system model, and storing the determined security value in memory.
Automation tool to create chronological AC power flow cases for large interconnected systems
A computer-implemented method includes extending simulation results and input data of a DC production cost model (PCM) of a power grid to an initial AC power flow model (PFM) using a generation distribution mapping and load distribution mapping of a related PFM base example associated with the PCM, and automatically producing a chronological series of converged AC PFM solutions associated with a PCM time series by, for each time step of the PCM time series: (i) updating inputs of an AC PFM using (a) PCM results of the current time step and (b) solution outputs of a converged AC PFM obtained from a previous PCM time step, and (ii) iteratively, reducing nodal loads by a gradual amount configured to account for power grid power flow losses unaccounted for by the PCM and performing AC PFM numerical analyses, until: (a) an AC PFM convergence is obtained and (b) a real power generation slack bus is less than or equal to a predefined tolerance in relation to a slack bus of the PCM results of the current time step.
