A test apparatus used for simulating debonding between a carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and concrete in a CFRP-strengthened structure consists of a primary structural block, a secondary structural block, an adjustable hanger, a receiving slot, an attachment mechanism, a pull-off disk, a connecting plate having a plurality of rods. The adjustable hanger and the secondary structural block are slidably positioned into the receiving slot that traverses into a structural body of the primary structural block. The adjustable hanger is mainly used during double-shearing tests and mixed-mode tests, wherein both shearing and peeling is analyzed in mixed-mode tests. The secondary structural block is used in double-shear tests, mixed-mode tests, single-shear tests, tension pull-off tests, and beam-bend tests. The attachment mechanism, which holds the primary structural block, the secondary structural block, and the adjustable hanger together, is also used during single-shear tests and beam-bend tests.

Disclosed herein is a system that comprises a deposition head configured to deposit multiple tows in a stacked configuration one layer at a time. Each tow of the multiple tows is a currently-applied tow when the tow is a most-recently deposited tow of the multiple tows and a tow of the multiple tows is a covered tow when the tow is directly covered by the currently-applied tow. The system also comprises a probe head, configured to move along and be spatially offset from the currently-applied tow after deposition of the currently-applied tow. The probe head is further configured to transmit an incident microwave beam into the currently-applied tow as the probe head moves along the currently-applied tow. The incident microwave beam has a frequency low enough to pass entirely through the currently-applied tow and high enough to pass entirely through no more than the currently-applied tow and the covered tow.

Test system and method for creating controlled and repeatable out-of-plane fiber distortion in composite laminates

In one version there is provided a test system including a layup tool having a layup surface, and two fairing bars attached to the layup surface. The test system includes the composite laminate having a plurality of stacked plies, and positioned between the two fairing bars. The test system includes fiber distortion initiator(s) positioned at one or more locations under, and adjacent to, one or more plies of the plurality of stacked plies. The test system includes two caul plates with a gap in between, and positioned over the composite laminate. When the test system undergoes a pressurized cure process with a vacuum compaction, a restricted outward expansion of the plurality of stacked plies by the fairing bars, and a pressure differential region formed by the one or more fiber distortion initiators at the one or more locations, create the controlled and repeatable out-of-plane fiber distortion in the composite laminate.

Thermal diffusion factor measurement device, thermal diffusion factor measurement method and program

To provide a thermal diffusion factor measurement device, a thermal diffusion factor measurement method and a program capable of measuring thermal diffusion with high accuracy, even when an object to be measured has anisotropy in which thermal diffusion factors differ greatly between the in-plane direction and the thickness direction and a thick thickness. In a thermal diffusion factor measurement method, a heating location H on a tabular sample is made to generate periodically varying thermal waves and the thermal waves at a detection location S on the sample are detected by a non-contact temperature sensor. In addition, the phase delay of the thermal waves at the detection location S is detected in consideration of a detection sensitivity distribution DS of the non-contact temperature sensor and the thermal diffusion factor in the in-plane direction of the sample is measured using the phase delay.
