A vehicle includes a tilt rotor that is aft of a fixed wing and that is attached to the fixed wing via a pylon. A flight computer configured to instruct the tilt rotor to produce a maximum downward angle including by updating an actuator authority database associated with the flight computer to reflect the maximum downward angle, and generating a rotor control signal for the tilt rotor using the updated actuator authority database that reflects the maximum downward angle, wherein the maximum downward angle is adjustable.
TURBOFAN JET ENGINE, POWERED BY AN ELECTRIC MOTOR WITH POWER FROM A HIGH EFFICIENCY ELECTRIC GENERATOR
A power system for an aircraft engine provides rotational drive to propeller driven and turbofan jet engine powered aircraft by use of a propeller or fan drive motor. Electrical power is provided to the drive motor by a high efficiency electrical power generator with reduced electromagnetic drag or reverse torque. The electric generator utilizes a solid state rotor that does not rotate which allows for power generation without reverse torque or the usual energy required to rotate the rotor inside the stator of the generator. Only the magnetic poles of the disclosed rotor rotate to generate the power. The fan blades of the turbofan jet engine are driven by the electric drive motor in which the rotor is a part of the fan as well as the drive from the high pressure turbine.
ELECTRIC CONNECTION OF AN ELECTRIC MACHINE IN AN AIRCRAFT TURBOMACHINE
An aircraft turbine engine includes a gas generator having a longitudinal axis (A), a fan which is located at an upstream end of the gas generator and which is configured to rotate about the axis, and an electric machine which has a generally annular shape. The electric machine is mounted coaxially downstream of the fan and has a rotor which is coupled in terms of rotation to the fan, and a stator which is connected to an electronic power circuit by at least one rigid electroconductive bar.
FLUX BARRIER ELECTRIC MACHINE WITH SUPERCONDUCTING INDUCED ELEMENT AND INDUCTOR
A superconducting flux barrier electric motor, including at least one induced element and at least one conductor, one of the armature or the inductor housing at least one rotor and at least one superconducting induction coil, and the other including at least one arrangement of the electromagnetic coils coaxial with the superconducting induction coil the rotor comprising superconducting pellets mounted radially inside the superconducting coil on an axis of rotation of the motor, where the electromagnetic coils are made of superconducting material and the induced element and the inductor are arranged in an assembly forming a cooling chamber provided with specific cooling means for the superconducting elements of the induced element and the inductor.
HYBRID POWER SYSTEM
A hybrid power system for an aircraft comprises a gas turbine connected to a generator for generating electrical power; an electrical storage device configured to output electrical power; a propulsor; a motor operable to drive the propulsor using electrical power from either or both of the generator and the electrical storage device; and a controller. The controller, to meet propulsor power demand, is configured to control an amount of electrical power generated by the generator, and an amount of electrical power outputted by the electrical storage device. In a first control mode coinciding with an increase in the propulsor power demand sufficient to cause a transient excursion of the operating point of a compressor of the gas turbine from a steady state working line, the controller is further configured to temporarily increase the amount of electrical power outputted by the electrical storage device such that the transient excursion is reduced.
ELECTRICALLY DRIVEN DISTRIBUTED PROPULSION SYSTEM
A method and system for operating a hybrid propulsion system, includes controllably providing a first power to a first bus and a first inverter, electrically coupling a first motor with a second inverter by way of a second bus, operably converting, by the second inverter, the first power received by the first inverter to a starting power adapted for starting the first motor, and increasing, by the second inverter, the starting power to match the first power received.
Hybrid energy storage system control for an aircraft engine
A power system of an aircraft includes a hybrid energy storage system with at least two energy storage subsystems each having a different power-energy density. The power system also includes one or more electric motors operably coupled to the hybrid energy storage system and to an aircraft engine. The power system further includes a means for controlling one or more electric power flows of the hybrid energy storage system to/from the one or more electric motors based on a modeled electric power demand associated with an engine load of one or more spools of the aircraft engine.
