GEAR SHIFT ACTUATION SIMPLIFICATION
20230286506 · 2023-09-14 ·

A transmission is subject to gear shift management that provides for shifting gears in a controlled manner in order to provide for a simplification of part and reduction in system complexity. In particular, a range synchronizer component can be replaced with a simplified range jaw clutch, without incurring a requirement for an installation of other components such as a motor generator or starter-generator.

DEVICE AND METHOD FOR AVOIDING COLLISIONS BETWEEN A TURNING COMBINATION VEHICLE AND A ROAD USER
20230282113 · 2023-09-07 ·

A method for managing a traffic situation associated with a road user and a turning combination vehicle. The combination vehicle comprises a first vehicle unit and a second vehicle unit. The method comprises obtaining sensor data indicative of traffic information from respective sides of the vehicle units from a set of sensors. The traffic information is indicative of respective turning motions of the vehicle units, and a position of the road user. The method further comprises determining respective trajectories of the vehicle units based on the respective turning motions of the vehicle units. The method further comprises establishing a region of interest extending along the determined trajectories. The method further comprises determining whether the position of the road user is within the established region of interest. The method further comprises, when the position of the road user is determined to be within the established region of interest, triggering preventive action.

Mirrors to extend sensor field of view in self-driving vehicles

The technology relates to enhancing or extending the field of view of sensors for vehicles configured to operate in an autonomous driving mode. One or more mirrors are used to reflect or redirect beams emitted from onboard sensors that would otherwise be wasted, for instance due to obstruction by a portion of the vehicle or because they are emitted at high pitch angles to the side. The mirrors are also used to redirect incoming beams from the external environment toward one or more of the onboard sensors. Using mirrors for such redirection can reduce or eliminate blind spots around the vehicle. A calibration system may be employed to account for mirror movement due to vibration or wind drag. Each mirror may be a front surface mirror. The mirrors may be positioned on the vehicle body, on a faring, or extending from a sensor housing on the vehicle.

Vehicle energy management system and related methods

A through the road (TTR) hybridization strategy is proposed to facilitate introduction of hybrid electric vehicle technology in a significant portion of current and expected trucking fleets. In some cases, the technologies can be retrofitted onto an existing vehicle (e.g., a truck, a tractor unit, a trailer, a tractor-trailer configuration, at a tandem, etc.). In some cases, the technologies can be built into new vehicles. In some cases, one vehicle may be built or retrofitted to operate in tandem with another and provide the hybridization benefits contemplated herein. By supplementing motive forces delivered through a primary drivetrain and fuel-fed engine with supplemental torque delivered at one or more electrically-powered drive axles, improvements in overall fuel efficiency and performance may be delivered, typically without significant redesign of existing components and systems that have been proven in the trucking industry.

Vehicle combination and method for controlling a drive

The invention relates to a vehicle combination having a towing vehicle and a trailer, wherein the trailer has a drive which is coupled to a wheel of the trailer, wherein a control unit is provided and is designed to receive a signal of a sensor, wherein the control unit controls the operation of the drive as a function of the signal. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a method for controlling a drive in a vehicle combination.

MIRRORS TO EXTEND SENSOR FIELD OF VIEW IN SELF-DRIVING VEHICLES

Vehicle weight distribution determination

Techniques are described for determining weight distribution of a vehicle. A method of performing autonomous driving operation includes receiving two sets of values from two sets of sensors, where a first set of sensors measure weights or pressures applied on axles of a vehicle, and where a second set of sensors measure pressures in tires of the vehicle. The method performs an error detection and removal operation to remove or filter out any erroneous values from the two sets of values to obtain two sets of filtered values. The method determines one or more values that describe a weight or pressure applied on the axle to obtain the weight distribution of the vehicle based on the first set of filtered values or the second set of filtered values. Based on the obtained weight distribution of the vehicle, the method can determine a driving operation of the vehicle.

METHOD FOR ASCERTAINING A SPATIAL ORIENTATION OF A TRAILER

A method for ascertaining a spatial orientation of a trailer of an autonomously driving towing vehicle with trailer. In the method, sensor data of a plurality of different sensor types are processed, so that the trailer and objects in the environment are identified in the sensor data, the sensor data communicated by the various sensor types and processed in this way being combined with one another, and the movement path of the trailer relative to the objects in the environment being determined on the basis of these combined sensor data.
