Light guide-based deadfront for display, related methods and vehicle interior systems
Embodiments of a deadfront article for a display are disclosed herein. The deadfront article includes a cover structure having: an inner surface; an outer surface opposite the inner surface; a glass layer located between the inner surface and the outer surface; and a first layer of light transmitting ink or pigment located between the inner surface of the cover structure and the glass layer. The deadfront article also includes a light guide layer having: an inner surface; and an outer surface facing toward the inner surface of the cover structure. A light extraction layer located on at least one of the inner surface and the outer surface of the light guide layer.
Backlit vehicle interior panel with specialty materials
A backlit vehicle interior panel includes a non-polymeric decorative layer and a mask layer. The mask layer includes an aperture formed through a layer of opaque material. The decorative layer can be a wood layer that is part of a wood sheet complex that overlies the mask layer. A blind hole is formed in the decorative sheet complex and extends through the decorative layer. The blind hole is aligned with the aperture. Light from a light source passes through the aperture of the mask layer and the aligned blind hole of the sheet complex to partly define an illuminated symbol along at outer surface of the panel. The illuminated symbol can be generated through the decorative layer even when the decorative layer is opaque, and the symbol can have sharper features than can be produced through a translucent decorative layer.
PRODUCT WITH INCORPORATED OPERATION DISPLAY PANEL
The present invention provides a product with an operation display panel incorporated therein, which naturally harmonizes with the environment to not create visual noise for a user and allow the user to operate the operation display panel intuitively while feeling a natural material. A thin layer, made of a natural wood, natural fiber, natural leather, or natural stone, or a resin, synthetic fiber, synthetic leather or artificial stone created by imitating the appearance and touch of a natural material, is provided on the peripheral surface of a housing so that the thin layer covers at least the entire front surface of a display panel. A touch sensor incorporated comes in contact with the front surface of the panel. The thickness of the thin layer and the luminance of the panel are designed to allow the user to view the content displayed on the panel.

Information display device
An information display device attachable to a structure includes a display panel and a surface member. The display panel has a display surface and is configured to display information on the display surface. The surface member is a surface member disposed on a display surface side of the display panel, and has a larger surface area than the display panel. When the display panel is turned on, only the information displayed on the display surface of the display panel becomes visible through the surface member.

Video display retractable to vehicle headliner with dual deployment locations
A retractable video screen has switchable opaque films laminated onto a transparent display panel. A transport unit at a headliner of a passenger cabin includes a motorized carrier configured to move the video screen to 1) a stowed position in which the video screen is retained horizontally in the transport unit, 2) a forward position where the video screen hangs vertically from a forward end of the transport unit, and 3) a rearward position where video screen hangs vertically from a rearward end of the transport unit. A first opaque film is opaque and a second opaque film is clear when the carrier is forward, so that the display panel is viewable from the seating area. The second opaque film is opaque and the first opaque film is clear when the carrier is rearward, so that the display panel is viewable from outside the vehicle through the liftgate opening.
