Low-Profile, Backlit, Panel Assembly for Displaying Images and/or Data within a Passenger Compartment of a Vehicle

A low-profile, backlit panel assembly and a controller for displaying images and/or data within a passenger compartment of a vehicle are provided. The assembly includes a substrate panel perforated with a two-dimensional array of closely-spaced holes. The panel is configured to be attached to a support structure of the vehicle. The assembly further includes a plurality of semiconductor-based, lighting devices supported at a back surface of the panel. Each of the lighting devices includes at least one lighting element. Each of the lighting elements is individually addressable by the controller to control luminous intensity of the light emitted by the at least one lighting element. Each of the lighting devices is aligned with one of the holes so that light emitted by each of the lighting devices travels through its hole to the passenger compartment in the form of a pixel of a two-dimensional image.

The present invention provides a head-up display apparatus capable of both long-distance display and short-distance display. A functional film 51 is mounted on a glare trap part 50 of a head-up display apparatus 1. In order to display a first virtual image 9a, a first image display device 30a projects a first image onto a windshield 3 via the glare trap part. In order to display a second virtual image 9b having a different display distance, a second image display device 30b generates a second image on the functional film and projects the second image onto the windshield. For the functional film 51, a variable transmittance film having a light transmittance that varies according to the applied voltage or a transparent self-luminous film in which an irradiated portion emits light when irradiated with a laser beam of a specific wavelength is used.

An object of the invention is to provide an information display device that displays information in a vehicle, can reduce the movement of the viewpoint of a viewer, and can obtain a large amount of image information. In order to achieve the object, there is provided an information display device that displays information in a vehicle and includes a first information display device that displays image information of a virtual image using reflection from a windshield of the vehicle, a second information display device that scans the windshield with laser light using a MEMS element to obtain a real image, and a third information display device using an instrument panel of the vehicle.

Polarization rotator for head-up display

A head up display arrangement for a motor vehicle includes a head up display module having a picture generation unit emitting a light field. A plurality of linear polarizers are arranged in a stack. A first of the linear polarizers receives the light field from the picture generation unit. A last of the linear polarizers emits the light field. A windshield reflects the light field from the last linear polarizer such that the reflected light field is visible to a human driver of the motor vehicle as a virtual image.

A projection display device includes: a light source that emits a first laser light for displaying a projection and a second laser light for inspection; a scanning drive mirror that reflects the first laser light and the second laser light emitted from the light source, and uses the first laser light and the second laser light in scanning; a light diffusion unit that allows the first laser light used in the scanning by the scanning drive mirror to be transmitted through the light diffusion unit and diffuses the first laser light; a light selection unit that allows the first laser light to be transmitted through the light selection unit and reflects the second laser light at a position on an emission surface of the light diffusion unit; and a light detection unit that detects the second laser light reflected by the light selection unit.

Head-up display apparatus

A laser projection portion projects multiple laser light fluxes having different wavelengths and superimposed one on another. A scan portion scans the laser light fluxes from the laser projection portion. The image is drawn on a screen member upon incidence of the laser light fluxes scanned by the scan portion. A refraction element portion having positive refractive power is located on a light path between the scan portion and the screen member and adjusts an incident angle of the laser light fluxes to the screen member by refraction. The refraction element portion includes a positive lens part and a negative lens part. The positive lens part has positive refractive power. The negative lens part is made of a medium with a higher dispersing quality than a medium forming the positive lens part and has negative refractive power.

Hologram Replicator Assemblies For Head Up Displays Including Continuous Transmission Neutral Density Filters And Corrective Leveling Elements

A replicator assembly includes reflective, transmissive, and transparent elements. The reflective element receives and reflects a hologram of a HUD system. The transmissive element includes a partially transmissive portion that receives a reflection of the hologram from the reflective element, outputs N replications of the hologram, and reflects N1 replications of the hologram. The partially transmissive portion is implemented as a continuous transmission neutral density filter across different phase regions. The phase regions of the partially transmissive portion correspond respectively to the N replications. N is an integer greater than or equal to 2. The reflective element reflects the N1 replications of the hologram. The transparent element is disposed between the reflective and transmissive elements and guides the N replications of the hologram between the reflective and transmissive elements. The reflective, transmissive and transparent elements are implemented as a replicator and collectively provide the N replications of the hologram.
