Device for Operative Monitoring of Fissionable Materials

A device providing high-accuracy, high-speed detection of fissile materials, the device comprising two coaxially arranged cylinders: an inner cylinder made of lead, which acts as a gamma shield and as a neutron multiplier; and an outer cylinder made of polyethylene, which acts as a neutron thermalizer. A pedestal capable of vertical axial movement is disposed in the lower part of the inner cylinder. Fifteen helium-3 counters with cadmium filters can be built into the wall of the outer cylinder in a circle, parallel to the generatrix. An isotropic deuterium-tritium 14 MeV neutron generator can be mounted in the wall of the outer cylinder, perpendicular to the generatrix. In one aspect, before installation, a vessel and a structural material contained therein are subjected to gamma scanning. Then, using the movable pedestal, the vessel is mounted in the inner cylinder so the center of mass of the structural material is opposite detectors.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR COLLECTING AND ANALYZING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INFORMATION USING AN UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE

A computer-implemented method includes receiving a first input associated with an incident location of an incident. A second input associated with a measurement zone surrounding the incident location is received. The method further includes producing, via a display monitor, a set of waypoints associated with a flight path of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based on the first input and the second input. The set of waypoints is displayed on a satellite aerial map including the incident location.

METHOD AND DEVICES FOR THE SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF RESIDUAL PHASE TRANSFER CATALYST IN A PET RADIOPHARMACEUTICAL DOSE
20200080979 · 2020-03-12 ·

Highly quantitative methods for determining the concentration of residual phase transfer catalysts (PTCs) in radiotracer or radiopharmaceutical doses are described. The methods comprise mixing aliquots of the doses that can contain residual PTCs with a sodium and/or potassium salt; extracting a residual PTC/salt complex into an organic phase; and detecting the amount of PTC/salt complex in the organic phase. The detecting can involve visual colorimetry or measuring the absorbance or transmittance of the organic phase when the sodium and/or potassium salt comprises a chromophoric ion, or measuring the resistance of the organic phase. Also described are devices for use in performing the methods.

A technique and device to determine the spectrum of electromagnetic radiation in a certain range of wavelengths comprising: splitting said radiation into more than one beam; let these beams counter-propagate in a Sagnac-type ring interferometer; and imprinting a wavelength-dependent angular tilt onto the wavefront of each beam by at least one dispersive element which preferably is a transmission grating or grism; and re-combining the multiple beams on a detector that exhibits spatial resolution and can therefore resolve the fringes formed by interference; and perform the mathematical operations to determine the spectrum of said radiation from the obtained interferogram, wherein the dispersive element is mounted on a stage providing linear and/or rotational movement.

APPARATUS, METHOD, AND SYSTEM FOR DETECTION OF THE ISOTOPIC COMPOSITION OF LIQUIDS
20240125725 · 2024-04-18 · ·

The present disclosure is directed towards a method, system, and apparatus for distinguishing between isotopically substituted liquids, such as H.sub.2O and D.sub.2O, and sensing other isotopologues of water, such as H.sub.2.sup.18O. In an embodiment, the electrical output characteristics of the apparatus or device are used as diagnostic signals to distinguish between isotopic compositions and isotopologues of a liquid. In an embodiment, water droplets with volume of several micro litre are applied to the apparatus or device generating some electrical signals which show differences between the application of H.sub.2O and D.sub.2O, for example. One advantage of the present method and system is that the configuration is simple and portable, with no need for complicated equipment and operation protocols.

Ultrasonic phased array transducer apparatus for the nondestructive inspection of a component under test

A phased array transducer apparatus includes a plurality of Phases Array Subassemblies (PASAs) that are arranged in three pairs in a single housing. The PASAs are each oriented at a compound angle with respect to a component under test in an environment such as a nuclear environment. The phased array transducer apparatus is carried into the environment by a tool, and the positioning of the PASAs on the phased array transducer apparatus results in the outputting of ultrasonic beams in various directions that avoids the need for the housing to be reoriented on the tool in order to complete an inspection of the object under test.
