Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for monitoring vehicles traversing a dedicated roadway that includes an at-grade crossing. In some implementations, a system includes a central server, a gate system, and sensors. The gate system provides access to an at-grade crossing for vehicles. The sensors are positioned in a fixed location relative to a roadway, the roadway including the at-grade crossing. Each sensor can detect vehicles on the roadway. For each vehicle, each sensor can generate sensor data and observational data from the generated sensor data. Each sensor can determine a likelihood that the detected vehicle will approach the at-grade crossing by comparing the likelihood to a threshold. In response, each sensor can transmit data to the gate system that causes the gate system to allow the autonomous vehicle access to the at-grade crossing prior to the autonomous vehicle reaching the gate system.

Communication system and method of a vehicle consist

A communication system and method receive, at an energy management system disposed onboard a vehicle system formed from a lead vehicle and one or more remote vehicles, trip data that represents one or more characteristics of an upcoming trip of the vehicle system along a route. A selected portion of the trip data is communicated from the energy management system to a distributed power system disposed onboard the vehicle system. The selected portion includes identifying information and one or more orientations of the one or more remote vehicles. Using the distributed power system, communication links between the lead vehicle and the one or more remote vehicles are established using the identifying information and the one or more orientations.

Monitoring and communication device of a vehicle

A vehicle monitoring device includes a camera or other optical sensor configured to be disposed at a trailing end of a first vehicle system. The camera or other optical sensor is configured to output one or more images or video of a field of view behind the first vehicle system. The monitoring device also includes a controller configured to receive output from one or more sensors and to activate the camera or other optical sensor to output the one or more images or video based on the output from the one or more sensors. The output from the one or more sensors indicates one or more of a change in movement of the first vehicle system, a temperature, an acoustic sound, or movement of a second vehicle system.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR INSTALLATION OF TRAIN DETECTION APPARATUS

Methods and systems for train detection apparatus angle alignment is described. A train detection system includes a train detection apparatus configured for installation at an installation site at a defined angle with respect to railroad tracks and a processor configured to execute a method for aligning the train detection apparatus to the defined angle. VEHICLE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM, CONTROL SYSTEM AND METHOD

A vehicle control system includes a controller that communicates between a first vehicle and a second vehicle and/or a monitoring device in a vehicle system. The controller determines a communication loss and, responsive to determining the communication loss, switches to communicating via a different communication path. The controller also determines an operational restriction on movement of the vehicle system based on the communication loss that is determined, obtains a transitional plan that designates operational settings of the vehicle system at one or more different locations along a route being traveled by the vehicle system, different distances along the route being traveled by the vehicle system, and/or different times. The controller automatically changes the movement of the vehicle system according to the operational settings designated by the transitional plan to reduce the movement of the vehicle system to or below the operational restriction.

20240140504 · 2024-05-02 ·

A method for orientation-based localization or position determination of a rail vehicle includes capturing sensor data that are correlated with a change of orientation of the rail vehicle. A time-dependent change of orientation of the rail vehicle is determined on the basis of the sensor data. Moreover, an estimated velocity of the rail vehicle is determined on the basis of the captured sensor data and/or on the basis of additionally captured sensor data. A distance-dependent orientation of the rail vehicle is subsequently determined on the basis of the estimated velocity and the time-dependent change of orientation of the rail vehicle. Furthermore, an absolute position of the rail vehicle is determined by comparing the determined distance-dependent orientation of the rail vehicle with reference data of a distance-dependent orientation. A localization facility and a rail vehicle are also described.
