Oil-water separation filter structure and oil-water separator comprising the same

The present disclosure is directed to providing an oil-water separation filter structure including a base guide having a separated water outlet hole through which a fluid separated from a mixed fluid including an impurity exits, an oil-water separation filter disposed on the base guide to separate the impurity and the fluid included in the mixed liquid, and a top guide disposed on the oil-water separation filter, having at least one mixed fluid inlet hole through which the mixed fluid enters, and coupled to the base guide. According to the present disclosure, the oil-water separation filter structure includes a hydrophilic material to separate water and oil, and as opposed to the existing nonwoven fabric type filters, can be continuously used, thereby preventing environmental pollution problems.

Filter apparatus for the treatment of hydrocarbon contaminated water

A filter apparatus for treating hydrocarbon contaminated water comprising a housing defining an internal cavity and having an inlet and an outlet; a separating member that separates the internal cavity into a first treatment zone and a second treatment zone, wherein the first treatment zone is in fluid communication with the inlet and the second treatment zone is in fluid communication with the outlet, the separating member having one or more holes therethrough for fluid flow from the first treatment zone to the second treatment zone; at least one distribution tube within the second treatment zone having an end enclosing at least one of the holes to accept liquid flowing through the hole, the distribution tube further having perforations along its length for distributing liquid into the second treatment zone; a filtration barrier within the first treatment zone for removing particulate matter from the liquid flowing therethrough; and a particulate filtration media within the second treatment zone, surrounding the distribution tube, comprising at least one polymer for removing hydrocarbons from the water flowing through the second treatment zone prior to exiting the outlet.

System and method for emulsion breaking and phase separation by droplet adhesion

Emulsion breaking and phase separation is achieved by droplet adhesion. An emulsion breaking device includes a channel having distinct adjacent zones with distinctly different surface wettability characteristics, namely, solvophilic and solvophobic surfaces. The device is positioned such that the upstream portion of the device is configured to be wetted by the continuous phase of the emulsion, and the downstream portion of the device is configured to be wetted by the dispersed phase of the emulsion. As the emulsion flows from the upstream zone to the downstream zone, the change in surface wettability characteristics promotes adhesion of the dispersed phase as the dispersed phase wets the surface of the downstream portion of the channel, which results in breaking of the emulsion. Subsequent collection of the broken emulsion in a collection vessel results in separation of the disparate phases to facilitate their recapture and recycling.

The present invention includes iterations of devices for absorbing water and hydrocarbons that accumulate in hydrocarbon handling and dispensing systems, fuel tanks, sumps, and other oil and hydrocarbon storage tanks, at gas stations and other locations such as ports, commercial trucking facilities, government installations, military bases, privately owned and commercial shipping vessels, and privately maintained fueling locations including trucking facilities, etc. Specialized versions of the devices can also clean up petroleum slicks on water surfacesknown as sheen or petroleum-contaminated water (PCW), and other contaminants. The present invention can stop phase separation. Once they have absorbed water, most versions of the device can also be disposed of easily and economically compared to alternative disposal methods due to their extremely light weight and because they can be dehydrated before disposal.
