Certain embodiments described herein are directed to handle sleeves that can reversibly couple to a handle. In some examples, the handle sleeve comprises a bioactive material that can kill or inactivate bioorganisms. The bioactive material can be a photocatalyst and may also comprise one or more transition metals. Methods of preventing or reducing the spread of infections using the handle sleeves are also described.

A sanitary covering is retrofit over an existing handle or railing, particularly a shopping cart handle. A stability-enhancing element in the form of compression foam is adhesively secured to an existing handle. A metal cover, such as of anodized aluminum, with a pathogen-eliminating outer surface (such as a biocidal or antimicrobial coating), jackets the compression foam. The cover may be in two parts having elements interlocking them together so as to be securely attached together and securely engage the compression foam. A method of retrofitting a sanitary covering over an existing handle or rail is also provided utilizing a stability-enhancing element and a metal cover with a biocidal or antimicrobial outer coating.

A sterilization mechanism for a shopping cart is described. The shopping cart includes a frame, a basket portion mounted to the frame, and a handle portion mounted to the frame and including a top and bottom section. The shopping cart includes a cleanliness sensor configured to detect a cleanliness level of the handle portion. The shopping cart includes a sterilization mechanism for killing microorganisms on the handle portion detachably mounted to the handle portion. The sterilization mechanism includes an ultraviolet light source disposed within the body of the sterilization mechanism and configured to be actuated into a light-emitting position when the cleanliness level is detected to be equal to or above a predetermined cleanliness threshold. In the light-emitting position, the ultraviolet light source is configured to emit ultraviolet light onto the handle portion to sterilize both the top and bottom sections of the handle portion from a mounted position.

The part, such as a small child seat, includes a structural carrier made from a thermoplastic resin and having an outer surface. The part further includes a formed plastic film sheet having upper and lower surfaces. The lower surface is bonded to the outer surface of the carrier. The film sheet includes an outer clear plastic layer including at least one antimicrobial agent disbursed throughout the plastic layer. The antimicrobial agent exhibits controlled migration through the clear plastic to the outer surface of the clear plastic layer.

Some embodiments are directed to a hand grip for wrapping around a handlebar. The hand grip includes a first elongated coupling member, a second elongated coupling member, and a cover arranged between the first elongated coupling member and the second elongated coupling member. The first and/or second elongated coupling member include one or more protrusions arranged to be inserted into one or more holes or recesses of the bar. The hand grip can easily be attached to for example a handlebar of a baby stroller, and can easily be removed.

The body component of the device is then placed around the handle of a shopping cart and secured to prevent contact of the user's hand with the possibly contaminated handle. Once placed on the shopping cart handle, the body component would conform to the handle and allow the user to use the handle as they would without the cover. Thus, the device is designed to prevent contamination from the pathogens found on cart handles.

A tubular outer sleeve may be provided for mounting the plurality of sanitary film layers.
