SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR TRACKING AND OPTIMIZING PIN HOLE LOCATIONS ON A PUTTING GREEN
20170239540 · 2017-08-24 ·

A system and method for more efficient tracking and automatically recommend an optimizing pinhole locations on putting greens are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system and method may be directed to identifying a global position of a pinhole location using a turf analysis device having a global positioning system (GPS) module configured to collect and assimilate pinhole location data and condition data to a server database. The server may then determine an optimal location of a new pinhole location based on all previously collected pinhole location data and all previous condition data. By tracking and analyzing the pinhole locations for one or more greens as well as corresponding condition data, follow-on pinhole locations can be optimized. In some embodiments, measurements of turf conditions may be used to influence the optimization of determining pinhole location.

Apparatus and associated methods relate to adapting a planar structure section to be retained against a cavity wall, stacking a first layer of the planar structure section and a second layer of a granular substance against the cavity wall, and constructing a barrier based on securing the stacked layers against the cavity wall with a barrier edge formed based on applying a coating of a viscoelastic substance and a coating of a loose-fill material to the stacked layers. In an illustrative example, the cavity wall may be a golf course bunker wall. The planar structure section may be, for example, carpet. In some embodiments, the granular substance may be sand. In various designs, the viscoelastic substance may be a prepolymer, and the loose-fill material may be peat moss. Various examples may advantageously provide more durable golf course bunker edges having improved playability at reduced maintenance effort and lower cost.

A simple and convenient multiuse use golf tool enables several valuable functions using an elongated ground stake that is slidably received into an elongated u-channel member. In this way, the ground stake may be held within the u-channel when not in use, for example during transport, and may be removed for use. In a first use, the ground stake has a divot repair tool at one end, and may be extended such that the u-channel and the ground stake cooperate as an extended lever to assist in easy divot repair. In the second use, the ground stake has a golf ball channel, and when the ground stake is placed on the ground, the golf ball channel may assist the golfer in achieving a consistent putt swing. In third use, the u-channel has a void in its base for perpendicularly receiving the ground stake. In this way, the golfer is enabled to practice proper position relative to a pin. In a forth use, the ground stake is made from a magnetic metal, or coated with a magnetic surface, such that a magnet attached to a phone or camera allows easy positioning of a camera relative to the golfer.
