The hole location updating device having a housing including a flagpole combiner for providing a combination with a flagpole, includes: a global positioning system (GPS) circuit for detecting a GPS position of a hole; a mobile communication circuit for providing access to a server through a mobile communication network; and a control circuit operable in a power blocking mode, escaping from the power blocking mode in response to a wakeup signal to update a hole location, and entering the power blocking mode.

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a system and method for hole selection in a defined area. Embodiments further disclose a system and method for selecting a golf hole location on a green. The system may include a storage component, a processing component, an analyzing component, a selecting component, and a user interface. The storage component may store a database of potential hole locations and attributes. The analyzing component may apply limitations to selecting golf hole locations based upon attributes of each golf hole location to determine an available set. The selecting component may select a golf hole location from the available set. The user interface may be used to input data and output a presentation of a selected golf hole location.

Disclosed are a device, computer program and method, for determining a range to a target, the device comprising a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, a pressure sensor, a temperature sensor, a controller; wherein the method comprises determining the device's geographic location based on coordinates from the GPS receiver and the device's elevation based on pressure and temperature data from the sensors; obtaining a location and elevation of a landmark based on GPS coordinates from a database; determining a distance between the device and the landmark using GPS coordinates; applying a slope compensation based on the difference in elevation between the device's elevation and the landmark; and converting the distance to a signal perceptible to a user.

Disclosed are a device, computer program and method, for determining a range to a target, the device comprising a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, a pressure sensor, a temperature sensor, a controller; wherein the method comprises determining the device's geographic location based on coordinates from the GPS receiver and the device's elevation based on pressure and temperature data from the sensors; obtaining a location and elevation of a landmark based on GPS coordinates from a database; determining a distance between the device and the landmark using GPS coordinates; applying a slope compensation based on the difference in elevation between the device's elevation and the landmark; and converting the distance to a signal perceptible to a user.
PACE OF PLAY REPORTING FOR GOLF COURSES
A system includes a first sensor configured facilitate detecting a location of a golf cart, a second sensor configured to facilitate detecting tee shots taken at a tee box of a golf course, and a control system. The control system is configured to detect that the location of the golf cart is proximate a tee box area for the tee box, detect one or more tee shots at the tee box, record one or more tee shot timestamps associated with the one or more tee shots, detect when the golf cart leaves the tee box area, identify a respective tee shot timestamp of the one or more tee shot timestamps associated with a respective tee shot of the one or more tee shots immediately preceding the golf cart leaving the tee box area, and set the respective tee shot timestamp as a start of play for the golf cart.
