CROSS-MEMBER STRUCTURE FOR A VEHICLE
A cross-member structure/assembly for a vehicle providing an instrument panel is disclosed. The assembly may comprise a composite structure/assembly comprising a plastic beam structure and a metal structural support section to reinforce the plastic beam structure. The assembly may comprise a metal structural member and/or metal bracket member. The assembly may provide structural reinforcement and integrate vehicle systems/subsystems with the instrument panel. The assembly may comprise a set of sections/segments such as an arrangement of beam/structure sections, mounting sections, and structural elements including members, webs, flanges, stiffeners, reinforcement, plates, walls, surfaces, etc. The assembly may comprise an intermediate structural support section configured to support the beam structure. The metal structural support section may be assembled with the plastic beam structure; the metal structural member may be formed with the plastic beam structure (e.g. insert molding, over-molding, etc.). The metal may comprise an alloy such as steel, aluminum, magnesium, etc.
Support Structure For An Instrument Panel Support and Instrument Panel Support Having Such A Support Structure
A support structure for an instrument panel support for a motor vehicle having a metal connector connected to at least one support part, which follows the longitudinal extension of the instrument panel support, for connecting the support part to a further support part or for connecting a strut or bracket to the support part. The support part is made of a different material than the metal connector. The metal connector has a multi-part construction and comprises a base part and a bracket part. The base part bridges the distance between the two support parts to be connected by the metal connector and has a support part connection surface which is supported on the lateral surface of the support part. The bracket part encloses the support part opposite to the support part connection surface in order to provide a support part enclosure together with the support part connection surface of the base part. The metal connector is connected in a materially bonded manner to the support part in the area of its support part enclosure. The bracket part is connected to the base part as a result of a joining process carried out with the supply of heat.
